During my academic career, I taught writing and literature at various universities in the U.S. I published a book, Out of Nowhere, on the role of art, literature and science in the creation of the tourist industry in New Hampshire's White Mountains. My latest book, The Future of Reading, describes reading as direct engagement in the world rather than as a mere reflection on the world.
