James (Jamie) M. Popkin is a Vice President and Gartner Fellow in the Office of the CIO research team of Gartner Research. Mr. Popkin is currently covering digital business transformation topics; and data and analytics strategy for the CIO. Previously Mr. Popkin was situated in the Data and Analytics research team covering Office of the Chief Data Officer/Chief Analytics Officer topics, advanced analytics strategy and business analytics strategy topics. He previously managed the Gartner for Technical Professionals Data Management and Professional Effectiveness teams. He is a former Chairman of Gartner U.S. and Japan Symposium/ITxpo. He formerly ran Gartner Research in Asia/Pacific and Japan, is the co-author of "IT and the East: How China and India Are Altering the Future of Technology and Innovation," and was the founder of the Gartner China Outsourcing Summit.

In his previous position with Gartner, Mr. Popkin served for 2.5 years as worldwide head of research for Vertical Industries and Gartner Asia/Pacific and Japan. In his 17-year career with Gartner, he has held a variety of management and analyst positions, including global head of Vendor Relations and Chairman of U.S. Symposia. As an analyst, he specialized in integrated document management, document imaging, information retrieval, output technologies and workflow software applications.
Prior to joining Gartner, Mr. Popkin was with the Deloitte & Touche Information Technology practice, managing a variety of technology strategy and development engagements. Previously, he served as a board member of the Association for Image and Information Management (AIIM) International Board of Directors.
