Joao Tapadinhas is a Research Director at Gartner, in the Business Analytics and Data Science team. He helps data and analytics leaders architect, implement and evolve their modern BI and analytics platforms, to empower business users and increase the impact from data. Of particular interest is the exploration of citizen data science to augment self-service analytics capabilities and simplify access to data science in organizations. He also covers cloud BI, big data discovery, mobile BI and business users' engagement with analytics.

Mr. Tapadinhas joined Gartner after two years at Portugal Telecom Information Systems, acting as consulting practice director for BI and analytics, enterprise content management and enterprise application integration. Prior to that, he led a team of BI and analytics for 11 years, at Portugal Telecom, evolving the company's analytics maturity from the widespread use of spreadsheets as BI standard, to a comprehensive implementation of self-service analytics capabilities and broad deployment of data science use cases. He was also head of IT for Dun & Bradstreet Portugal for four years, helping the business evolve from being a data supplier, to offering analytics as a service to customers.
