John Harrell is a Senior Director, Analyst within Gartner's Tech Product Manager team within the Technology and Service Providers research unit. His role-based research focuses on storage technology product managers across various market domains including cloud, enterprise, and datacenters. A special focus is on solutions for data protection, backup & recovery, business continuity & disaster recovery, archiving, software defined storage, enterprise search, video streaming and applications. Also, his prior experience includes developing and managing ecosystems and 3rd party programs.
Previously, John was at Equinix where he was responsible for developing a vision for end-to-end customer experience to support future growth and to accelerate building products and services offerings for their B2B sale model. Prior to Equinix John was Group Director for the cloud IaaS product portfolio at NTT which included public, private and provider cloud platforms and cloud services such as backup, storage as a service, snapshot service and managed hosting. Also, at NTT, he held the position of the senior product manager of the OneCloud Partner Program, acting as the subject matter expert and product manager.
John comes to Gartner with deep product management experience of more than 30 years spanning Telecommunication, IT services and cloud service providers. John has held product management and marketing roles with storage vendors EMC, Nexenta Systems, and Hitachi Data Systems as well as communication platform providers 8x8, Nortel, Octel Communications and service providers Oracle and Mitsubishi Electric.
