Margaret Ranken helps Gartner clients develop business plans for their Internet of Things (IoT) products. Ms. Ranken is a member of Gartner's IoT Group. She focuses on three areas for the IoT: demand forecasting, communications technology and smart cities. Ms. Ranken's research agenda is predominantly focused on demand forecasting for devices and applications of the Internet of Things.

Prior to joining Gartner, Ms. Ranken managed the forecasting team at Machina Research. Previously, she wrote Analyst Reports and developed demand forecasts for the Analysys Mason Group in areas including Voice on IP, Residential Broadband, Business Data Services and SaaS. Prior to that, she managed European Commission research projects in Telecommunications and contributed to the development of the Analysys STEM modeling system. Additionally, she worked as an engineer with British Telecom.
