Thomas J. Handler, M.D., is a Research Vice President in the Healthcare Provider analyst group. Dr. Handler focuses on clinical applications and digital care delivery. More specifically he is covering electronic health record (EHR) systems, electronic medical record (EMR) systems, electronic patient record (EPR) systems and patient portals including critical capabilities, strategy, selection, governance, implementation, and optimization. He also helps clients develop their virtual care/telemedicine vision and strategy. Other topics he is covering include patient-focused IT, IT support for genomic and precision medicine and, to a lesser extent, the use of AI for clinical diagnosis especially in the area of diagnostic imaging.
Dr. Handler has more than 30 years of healthcare experience. Prior to joining Gartner, he was on staff at the Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he participated in healthcare system selection and software implementation.
