Defined Benefit Plan

A defined benefit plan is an employer-sponsored retirement plan that is based on a specific formula, such as length of employment, salary history and age. Defined benefit plans provide a fixed payout to employees upon their date of retirement, either as a periodic fixed benefit or as a lump-sum amount. These plans are funded and controlled by the employer, who bears all investment risk.
