Policy administration systems (PASs) enable European non-life insurers (also known as general insurers) to manage the entire life cycle of insurance policies and scope of products. PASs consist of a range of capabilities, most commonly centered on policy, billing and claims. The commercial software packages on the market may not support all of these capabilities. Most European non-life PASs available today include basic technology functions such as workflow and process management. Many now also offer additional functional capabilities such as business intelligence (BI) and analytics tools; document management solutions; customer, agent and supplier portals; and integration mechanisms such as web services. Though many of these non-life-insurance PASs are available for modular deployment, some are still designed and deployed as monolithic software suites covering the entire value chain of a general insurer.
