Adidas goes green—literally—in a new spot that celebrates its Kermit the Frog-inspired Stan Smith sneakers and its five-year-plan to make the world a greener place, one step at a time.
In addition to the beloved Muppet, tennis great/sneaker namesake Stan Smith stars in the new ad, which was produced remotely. The two icons perch on a park bench and ponder the importance of making a difference, no matter how small, to keep the planet green and clean. The ad campaign is part of a wide-ranging partnership with Disney and as such, viewers will notice a few famous green faces from Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, and more in the spot and on the sneaker. The newest iteration of the classic Stan Smith sneakers boasts the use of Adidas’ Primegreen material made from 50% recycled content, along with a recycled rubber sole. The shoe, which comes in a variety of green and Disney-dotted designs, is another step in Adidas’ commitment to a cleaning up its brand.

Similarly, sustainability has been the hot word for brands of all backgrounds for some time now. By looping in two familiar faces and an evergreen cause, Adidas blends trends to promote its new product. Finally, it doesn’t hurt that green is expected to be one of the biggest colors of 2021, along with champagne and gold, to signify hope and positive change.
