Pubs in the UK are a social institution, but with many closing to stop the spread of COVID-19, an online solution has launched so customers can share a pint from the safety of their own home.
Created by One Minute Briefs, the #StayingInn campaign encourages UK citizens to stay indoors and practice social distancing. Using Twitter, #StayingInn encourages users to share designs, sketches, and GIFs for others to enjoy while self-distancing. “The Staying Inn Pub” will operate on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram where “pub goers” are encouraged to socialize as they normally would in a pub. Using the three platforms makes sense, as they receive the highest consumer engagement rates, according to a Gartner report. The pub will also give away prizes each day, such as cases of lager and multi-packs of chips.
The online pub has partnered with the NHS to further spread the message of staying indoors. As well, PayItForward, an initiative set up to help people and businesses in Manchester, England is working on the campaign—people are encouraged to buy vouchers to local businesses with ￡1 from each voucher donated to the Hospitality Action fund.
Maintaining a sense of community is important for customers in this time—even if the traditional experiences are digital. Through the online pub customers in the UK can enjoy a light-hearted experience while heeding safety precautions.
