The biggest day of advertising is also the biggest day of food delivery. As Super Bowl Sunday approaches, DoorDash is all set to make its debut commercial with the cast of Sesame Street in an effort to tackle typical notions about restaruant delivery platforms.
The campaign, called “The Neighborhood“, offers a fresh take on the “People in your Neighborhood” song and also marks nonprofit Sesame Workshop’s first time at the Super Bowl. DoorDash is using the ad to open up consumers’ eyes to the endless possibilities of food delivery. While wings and pizza are obvious order options, milk and cookies, shampoo, paper towels, and even birdseed (a la Big Bird) are all also available for delivery via DoorDash. This information could resonate especially well as consumers may be celebrating solo this Sunday, and therefore, may be able to focus on ads even more than they used to. Additionally, DoorDash will donate $1 for each order placed on February 7 and 8, up to $1 million.
Because so many big brands are on the bench this Super Bowl Sunday, the ones that are taking part are making extra effort to shine. That said, it makes sense that DoorDash would want to use this precious time to remind consumers about all the other neighborhood staples it works with, such as Walgreens, CVS, Wawa, and PetSmart. Alternately, it’s also noteable that DoorDash will be donating the proceeds of the big delivery days, as many of the brands that have chosen to sit out are giving the money to a good cause.
