Lay’s is starting out the new year with a nationwide release of three brand new chips.
The three chips all boast different flavors and textures: Kettle Cooked Flamin’ Hot, Cheddar Jalapeno, and Poppables Sea Salt & Vinegar. While Cheddar Jalapeno reflects the classic crispy Lay’s potato chip, Flamin’ Hot chips will be extra crunchy and Poppables will be lighter and airier. Lay’s has been promoting the chips on Instagram, asking fans to comment which flavor they are most excited to try for a chance to win a free bag. This style of promotion makes sense, as top images on the platform typically come from new flavor launches according to Gartner’s report on the topic, where Lay’s is a food brand frontrunner.
In addition to the new flavors, Lay’s has announced its first brand redesign in ten years. The company will be holding a nationwide search for its “Smile Campaign”. Interested customers can nominate themselves or friends with a story of “an ordinary person doing something extraordinary in their community” for a chance to have their smile featured on the Lay’s bags. The updated bags featuring the winner’s smiles will hit shelves this fall.
Lay’s is ready to make 2020 an unforgettable year for snacking. The brand’s innovative flavors and campaign could inspire other snack brands to also try something new.
