United Airlines has teamed up with Star Wars to bring passengers far, far away.
In anticipation of the franchises newest film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, United Airlines created a customized Star Wars plane, complete with a lightsaber painted on the planes’ tail. The interior and exterior of the plane were customized to pay tribute to the Star Wars films, including seat headrests embossed with emblems from the Resistance or the First Order—two dueling factions from the films. Each passenger will board the plane to the films iconic soundtrack and will watch a safety video featuring Yoda and Chewbacca. United Airlines MilagePlus members also have the chance to bid on Star Wars themed experiences such as attending the Los Angeles movie premiere or visiting the filming locations in Jordan. Customers looking to bid on experiences or book a trip to be on a Star Wars flight can use the United Airlines website and live chat with customer service, a helpful tool that has become popular among brands according to an L2 report on the topic.
The Star Wars plane has already made its first journey on a trip from Houston, Texas to Orlando, Florida. As passengers sat down, they were given a Star Wars-themed amenity kit featuring products from skincare brand and United partner, Sunday Riley. Those not lucky enough to snag a seat on the intergalactic plane can download the plane-tracking app, FlightAware to see where in the world the plane is.
The Star Wars themed plane will fly through the sky until December 20, 2019. Other brands may look to United Airlines in the future when arranging interactive partnerships.
