PetSmart’s Pet Partnership

PetSmart joins the list of retailers offering same-day delivery through DoorDash. 

PetSmart is launching the service at more than 1,400 locations across the country. Customers can order items like pet food, toys, and treats, and have them delivered within hours by DoorDash. Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, DoorDash offers contactless drop-offs, with customers able to designate where they would like their PetSmart products delivered. Orders can be placed on the DoorDash app, where customers are connected to their nearest PetSmart location and can track their delivery. To promote the new partnership, PetSmart offered free delivery through September 20 to any customers who tried out the service. 

Partnering with PetSmart signals DoorDash’s movement beyond its core restaurant delivery. Since the pandemic began, DoorDash has launched its own grocery store, called DashMart, and partnered with companies including Chili’s, 7-Eleven, and Walgreens. Working with PetSmart now opens DoorDash up to a new crew of customers—pet parents. With animal owners spending more money and time on their pets during the pandemic than ever before, DoorDash could benefit from current times by building loyalty with them, according to a Gartner report. Pet retailers have seen a sales boost due to the pandemic, which could also help DoorDash connect with consumers as it promotes its quick-delivery services. 

By implementing DoorDash’s same-day delivery service, PetSmart could sustain its pandemic-age sales and increase loyalty with customers looking for last minute pet products.
