Banana Republic is taking order fulfillment to the next level with its new courier partnership.
Banana Republic recently announced it would be working with the delivery company Postmates to bring customers in New York City and Southern California same day orders. The on-demand delivery service will include free delivery and is targeted at those in need of a last-minute clothing item. While the brand is starting small with its rollout, if the partnership leads to positive sales, the arrangement may be extended to more cities around the U.S.
Banana Republic is the latest retailer to compete with Amazon’s record-fast order fulfillment, particularly as the demand for fast and free orders intensifies. While customers already have the option of choosing same day in-store pick-up with Banana Republic, having the additional benefit of same-day delivery could increase convenience. Postmates has already been testing out clothing delivery, even working with Banana Republic’s sister brand, Old Navy. Postmates and Old Navy teamed up this past holiday season in a bid to drive sales, a smart move given over half of holiday shoppers are more willing to place an order when shopping if there is free or quick fulfillment, according to a Gartner report on the topic. Other companies, including Target and CVS, have worked with delivery services, like Shipt, to offer same-day delivery to customers—also in an effort to compete with Amazon Prime.
Fast shipping is quickly becoming the new normal in the retail industry—and as delivery options continue to advance, brand’s will continue to get creative to meet customer expectations.
