Samsung’s Galaxy Invasion

Samsung has partnered with Star Wars to bring Galaxy users a sky invasion of epic proportions. 

Galaxy phone owners will have the chance to see “Invasion with Galaxy”—an augmented reality experience that allows users to see the six ships from the film franchise flying around the sky through their phones. The limited-time experience is in anticipation of the next franchise film, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Galaxy owners in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco or Washington, D.C. can access the “invasion” from December 23, 2019, until January 2, 2020, with starships being rolled out in a different city each day. To access, users must download the Samsung Members app and point their phone cameras toward the sky to watch the virtual invasion. 

This promotion will not only increase the number of downloads for the Samsung Members app, but also allows the brand to offer exclusive content to Galaxy owners. The company’s virtual marketing campaigns typically land well with its consumer base, earning Samsung the #1 spot in a Gartner L2 report, which noted the company generates millions of views on YouTube and has the largest community size on Facebook for a consumer electronics brand. 

The augmented reality experience is not the only promotion the company is rolling out. Samsung has also tied in a Star Wars-branded Galaxy Note 10 as part of its “Star Wars Special Edition” package. In addition to the unique smartphone, shoppers will also receive Galaxy Buds wireless headphones, a metal collectors badge, and a Kylo Ren-embossed leather case—all in coordinated red and black coloring. 

Many brands including Porsche, McDonalds, and United Airlines have jumped aboard the starships to partner with Star Wars for the release of its ninth film. Samsung’s augmented reality experience is the latest to join the force and help bring the movie experience to life.
