Frito-Lay has teamed up with actress Anna Kendrick to get snackers in the holiday spirit.
Sung to the tune of “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music, Anna Kendrick sings about her love for everything from Cheetos and Doritos to ugly sweaters and gingerbread houses in the brand’s newest holiday commercial. The commercial was released right before Thanksgiving, as the brand found the day before the famous eating holiday is one of the most popular for snack shopping. Fittingly, it made its television debut during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, while additional clips have been cut to appear on the brand’s social media pages.
Frito-Lay also dedicated a section of its YouTube channel to show behind the scenes from the commercial, as well as different clips with Anna Kendrick talking about some of her personal favorite holiday “things” and traditions. The company consistently gains social media traction, according to a Gartner L2 report on the topic, and utilizing a star like Anna Kendrick—who is known online for her witty Tweets and even has “emotional eater” in her Instagram bio— helps the brand reach their market of mad snackers.
The holiday campaign is the first one to be conceived entirely by the brand’s internal creative team. While the company has become synonymous with its Super Bowl Doritos commercials, the team wanted to highlight the entire portfolio of snacks to encourage hungry holiday snackers too.
Frito Lays is using music and star-power to appeal to hungry viewers this holiday season. Instead of focusing in on one or two products, the brand is displaying a plethora of salty snacks—a move other food brands may want to remember for the next holiday season.
