Saturation of digital commerce coupled with fightback from traditional retailers such as Walmart and Target led to a slowdown in revenue growth from 33% to 19% for Amazon in 2019. This has forced the company to focus on profits as well as top line revenue, in order to sustain stock value. In order to drive profitability Amazon has invested in tangential business stream and is looking to drive profits in businesses such as Advertising, fulfillment and Amazon brands.
