Is there anything you miss about your previous operational role?

From time to time, I miss managing a large team as a CIO, but that in itself takes a toll. It gets exhausting, being the kind of person I am there's emotion attached to it, you've got to do more advocacy for a bunch of people who don't actually understand some of the roles.Senior Executive Advisor in Software, 10,001+ employees
I’m a storyteller by heart. I do miss the energy from my town halls and being a bard of my team’s achievements.Former Chief Technology and People Officer in Software, 1,001 - 5,000 employees
Yes, I miss my teams terribly.Managing Director in Finance (non-banking), 1,001 - 5,000 employees
There is something to be said about moving an aircraft carrier a few degrees by harnessing the effort of a broad team of passionate people that is satisfying. It's harder than doing a hard pivot with only a handful of people.Advisor | Investor | Former CIO in Services (non-Government), Self-employed
+1 on team. That’s what I miss the most. Overcoming the odds with a great teamSenior Director, Defense Programs in Software, 5,001 - 10,000 employees
There’s a lot more continuous learning built into operational roles that I miss. The feedback loop is tremendous with a big people, process, and tech decisions flowing nonstop. Curating this outside of operations is a lot of work.Group IT Manager Operations in Construction, 5,001 - 10,000 employees
I do miss a much larger team, complexity and time sensitive pressure but the most to miss is the human aspect of it. At one point I had a combination of 16 nationalities in my global team operating in different time zones and cultural environments. Ensuring cohesiveness while maintaining the beautiful personality touch of every individual was a daunting but exciting juggle every day.
I am proud to see many of them grown up in their lives and we all still cherish the daily rush and the cross connections while having the single goal - to deliver!
