Is your company more focused on developing or hiring talent?

I think we're having to do both. We've partnered with the State of Arkansas through the Forge Institute, which is a non-profit organization, to help develop talent. With us being based in Arkansas, we have to balance out how much we can pipe in versus develop in. Developing in is rewarding because we're doing a lot of work to enable returnship of individuals that are trying to transition careers. There's a lot of benefits there, but you have to balance that out when you have a job that requires a certain level of skill to jump in and get started. We're doing both. We are interviewing and looking for capabilities where they are, but we're also starting to develop within. We're looking to partner with other companies like Forge. We've been interviewing a couple of other companies where they will develop the college graduate while we provide contract work, and then they eventually become one of our associates. We're looking at all these different alternatives.

Historically, because we're a specialized audit firm, our primary source for recruiting has been through the big four firms. We find the people that have done 2-3 years at a big four firm that actually want to do IT audit for a living and enjoy that, and we bring them over to do it. But that's not enough. We're starting an associate program in select locations, but you can't do that remotely. Columbus Ohio is where we're trying it out. Dallas Texas is next. I don't know if I could pull this program off in the Bay Area because I could find an office space for one person that's five minutes away from their house, and then it could be 90 minutes for somebody else. So it just becomes tough.

I don’t agree with the strategy but we hire it. We do not get much of a training budget. We offer a suite of free training through a service but you must take the classes on your own time

I wish I could say developing but alas, reality is that we are more interested in hiring developed talent already.
