Absolutely. In the past before the drastic expense budget cuts, it was expected to take people to lunch when we traveled to our other offices

We weren’t sales, we were operational IT. But if we could grab some local IT and a Marketing person and Engineering person for 7 person lunch we were to do so I’m still collaborating with people I took to lunch 15+ years ago

My role is cross-functional with dependencies, so I would encourage my staff to meet with people outside their team back when we were in the office. It's important to have that trusted relationship and likewise, I want the entire team to go and build that accordingly. It's been hard now because although most of us probably don't realize it, that's one of the things that has been lost as part of the value of being in the office.

I have noticed that more people have been reaching out to me for a coffee and a meet and greet, whether they’re within my organization or outside of it. And it might be because I speak on diversity and inclusion, and I'm very present on social media. But I'm doing a lot more of these coffees, which turn into two or three mentoring sessions.
