Clear expectations - goals, seamless collaboration platform, regular check touch points,  then get out of the way as a leader!

I’ve done it at a few companies across many states/countries. Recommend:

1. Weekly video 1x1’s. Don’t just talk work (what have u done/up next) but also how they’re doing and how you can help them be successful.

2. Weekly Team meetings. I used to call these “Staff” but changed it to “Team” since you want to demonstrate you’re in it together - shared wins and losses.

3. Team Building - quarterly at an offsite, ideally coupled with quarterly planning objectives (eg Release Planning if it’s a Product Team).

4. Reinforced Communication - video always on unless bandwidth is an issue. Always share screen on slides / pages, and take notes. By sharing screening on notes at a minimum at the end of a group meeting, you reinforce oral conversation with visual written action items and owners.

5. Overcommunicate - Slack and email reinforce meeting discussions and key takeaways / actions / owners.

I have several other tips, but this post is too long already :)

Have a fixed output expected for every half or full day status.  Have a call with them and see how they are doing and the challenges they are facing.

Office 365, Skype, constant communication TRUST your staff.
Director IT Administration in Education, 501 - 1,000 employees
Otis more convenient for IT professionals to work from home, managers only to prioritize schedules, as well discuss with team through conference call.

Without a doubt - Technical Debt! It's a ball and chain that creates an ever increasing drag on any organization, stifles innovation, and prevents transformation.
