Is anyone moving legacy on prom virtual machines to AWS using VMware's AWS offering which allows VMware VMs to run in AWS (a convenience but involve VMware costs).

Agree with @MichaelWahl when we move workloads from our data centers to AWS we get off VMWare and instead use native AWS capabilities instead (AMIs, EC2 instances, etc.). Using VMWare in AWS seems like a hybrid and potentially costly approach.

No, perhaps someone could better explain why an organization would go that route. We are running VMware Dell and Nutanix HCI on-premise, but nothing in the cloud that requires VMware.
