Looking to deploy a new LAN solution at my organization.  I don't want us to be tied to the whims of Cisco.  Are there actual, viable, healthy alternatives?

Anthony you can explore Juniper, dlink, HP or Aruba based on your budgets and solution required.

Not sure if you are looking for campus or core, but for campus have a look at https://www.arista.com/en/

We are on our second generation of HP/Aruba wired and wireless networking for a mid-sized organization and are very happy with the reliability. HP has been very aggressive on pricing and the product has been solid. Given pricing, CISCO is not even at the table.

Personally, I would stick to Cisco notwithstanding the other alternatives. Their solution is tried and proven.

I've deployed Juniper at two separate orgs for Core, Aggregation & Access switching. Solid choice if you've got a bench or partner that knows Junos well.

Where feasible, consider software-defined networking or software-defined data centre.
