What are some key blockers to building a team of blended talent?

Companies need to stop cutting the staff of people who are over 45. Because the amount of knowledge that's working out the door is now quantifiable and it is really detrimental, particularly in companies that are transforming. At the biggest corporation that I've worked for, they were constantly making acquisitions. So I would take people from other companies who had around 15 years’ experience and were called senior developers, or team leads; these folks had some skill in managing people and directly interacting with the business. I then benchmarked a role from the talent that was in the market, or in those acquired companies, to establish what that person will need to have. So if you only have three years’ experience, I wouldn't say, "Forget about it." I would say, "It's a probationary role, but you need to show proof of these skill sets within 6 months."
