If you had a magic wand - what's the #1 daily business challenge you'd eliminate?

Top Answer: Without a doubt - Technical Debt! It's a ball and chain that creates an ever increasing drag on any organization, stifles innovation, and prevents transformation.

Which vendor is the leader in IAM and what makes them stand out?

Top Answer: Okta will probably be the leader. They have a breadth of unmatched features and offerings, a large user base, education materials, certificates, and everything you need from an enterprise solution. They keep buying companies (Auth0, for example) and expanding their portfolio.

How likely is an organization to have misconfigured multi-factor authentication (MFA) settings?

Top Answer: The "basics" of MFA are usually straightforward and not very challenging to get right. The challenging part is what happens next, I often refer to it as "operationalizing" security - driving adoption and awareness, providing training, controlling configuration drift, etc.

Anyone using hard tokens/hardware-based MFA? What's your experience?

Top Answer: I use hardware-based tokens for my bank transactions and don't like that I cannot replace them with a mobile app. I prefer mobile apps for MFA instead of needing to carry hardware tokens with me.

What specific impacts has the COVID-19 pandemic had on IT organizations in education?

Top Answer: The pandemic has been an interesting challenge to come up to speed on. I'm the CIO for the Cherry Creek School District and we have about 55K kids. I came out of the private sector and being in the public sector is still very interesting. There's just so much that we have to deal with in K-12 public education and in. The pandemic has been a complete mess. We've been able to stay in school but from the start of the pandemic in March 2020, we had to spin up 55K devices really fast. It was a crazy time to put that out so rapidly and trying to control that has been complete chaos. No one in their right mind would go one-to-one in just a few weeks and do it across an entire system. People don't understand the scale of what we deal with between the 55K kids, about 10K staff, and then 35K parents. I get to 100K IDs pretty fast. That’s on top of thousands of security cameras, telephones, and the internet — our internet pipe is massive.

dentist: so, are you flossing? me: are you using a unique password for every account? Jokes apart, how big of a problem is password management and support in your environment?

Top Answer: Not much of a problem to be honest. We have a process that is followed and most of the time it works flawlessly. We have separate procedures for admin accounts, service accounts and user accounts. We use LAPS for managing local administrator passwords, have a web portal for a user password reset, email notifications for employees when their password is due to expire and reminders to do so.
