While slow in adoption and technical issues with earlier versions of tool, Appian has continued to postively evolve. Mobility has been a success.
Consider cost of tool, user experience and processes you need to orchestrate

the glitches. the initial cost is has taken to develop on the platform
Improved their value in supporting collaboration between IT and the business
It is hard to be a Monday quarterback - the organization would have waited on the technology, but then may not had the successes it had.

Very good rollout and support. We are now expanding to using the product as our Development Platform.
Look at Appian.
Look beyond the current business need and develop a maturing application rollout roadmap.

We selected the product from a large field narrowed to the best few for a full bake-off. The speed of implementation and and the completeness of the solution proved to meet our needs. The vendor provided the right resources and was able to meet their commitments in implementation support.
Build a strong core process that brings significant business value from the beginning, then add more process automation over time to build a strong end-to-end solution. Deploy at planned intervals and prepare the users for upcoming releases in advance.
Speed and completeness of implementation and ease of modification to meet evolving business needs.
The UI could be both more intuitive and a little flashier to draw users in and guide them through new processes.
I wish they had more process and data governance facilities built into their suite, then helped us implement the governance discipline along with the new automated capabilities.
We would have had a smoother implementation if we had ensured we went into the implementation better prepared, with the our house more in order.

from begining to end, Appian has been a great partner. They have guided us (through professional services) and drive our strategy and improvement. They have also helped us to grow our internal team for future sustainability.
Be well guided by Appian or other partners, and focus on the initial strategy after knowing well the platform. Give priority to the training of internal teams through collaboration with partners. The professional level takes time.
The platform is incredible and allows a really fast pace of development. Also easy to engage stakeholders through fast prototyping.
Time required for high expertise in the development of the platform.
Provide the initial package of "take off" from internal team, as part of the deployment of the platform.
Move paper processes to digital. Continuous improvement of global and business local processes. One single point of access to information.

Appian is a highly configurable cloud-based application, hosted on AWS, that is cost-effective, easy to deploy and meets business needs. Top to bottom, the entire organization is customer focused and easy to build the partnership. technical teams are high skilled in modern application and cloud architecture development. AWS PaaS services have been utilized effectively. Project deployments were predictable and outcomes were as expected meeting business needs and timelines. Easy to work with management, technical, development, security and professional services teams. Collaboration with the team at all level was high effective. The vendor and partners bring in industry knowledge and use cases. Training and development were available at multiple levels of expertise.
Flexible user-friendly, highly configurable non-code based deployment that will meet most of your business needs. The Cloud-based architecture (hosted on AWS) leverages many of the AWS native service offerings. Invest in a cloud architect to ensure that your organizational policies are reflected in the cloud environment. Manage team is friendly and thrives to built strategic partnership. The talented development team is always customer focus. Appian professional services offer training and development. Power users could deploy BPMS use cases without development (no coding based). Strategic partnership with major consulting and development shops exists. However, limited availability of professional services resources outside Appian and their preferred consulting/development partners. Develop internal team Appian expertise if you're planning to offer BPMS as a large scale service offering within the organization. On premise, deployment model is offered as well along with cloud offering. However, highly recommend cloud solution to avoid lifecycle management challenges and complexities. Adopt agile deployment methodology for speed to market. The solution is easily configurable and development cycle is typically short. If you have specific regulatory requirements, the team is open to working with you to explore fit and help close gaps (i.e. GXP etc)
User-Friendly. High configurable. Meet most business needs and use cases. Cost effective. Cloud hosted. Modern Application architecture. Available training and development. Effective hyper care and support teams.
A rather plain UI. However, modern UI is scheduled for GA during 2Q 2017 and much more flashy.
Cloud support is well established. Application support (based on configured application deployed) needs to be developed.
