Gartner defines a data center as a centralized environment that provides support for computer equipment in a secure facility. Data Center Outsourcing deals are mostly a bundle of standardized managed services and customized transition and transformation services. They may include the management of client premises and colocation, hosting, IUS and managed cloud service components. Gartner defines Infrastructure Utility Services (IUS) as the provision of outsourced, industrialized, asset-based IT infrastructure managed services below the business application functional layer. IUS are defined by service outcomes, technical options and interfaces, and are paid for based on resource usage, allocation or number of users served. Increasingly, IUS are based on managed virtual private cloud services.
