They have worked very closely with us, and helped us through the process. The effort was significant, but they have assisted every step of the way.
Identify team members strong with both corporate accounting principles AND information technology.
It is a technically powerful product, and as such, technically complex. But it does work very well.
The tool is very complex and requires lengthy training to master.
Perhaps more involvement (maybe) in the implementation would have helped.

The guidance and support from Apptio has been exceptional. Though early in our cost transparency journey, we were able to allocate 99.8% of our costs. The only challenge we had is that Apptio sales doesn't seem to be in sync with government budget cycles and their sales cycle.
Iterate. Don't worry about the data being perfect. Use the insights to drive where you improve your data sources.
The common sense approach to cost transparency and the direct linkage to the TBM Framework (ATUM Model).
It's new enough that we are having to grow our resources from scratch and not able to find people with experience.
We would have done better organizatoinal change management with our stakeholders in order to create better partnerships and access to data sources.
The Apptio team continues to be highly responsive, assisting my team with answers and direction on quick order. The level of support never dropped after implementation.

Vendor listened to the needs of the enterprise and the outcomes we were trying to solve. They worked intimately with us to talk through the system capabilities and to configure the first implementation. This was piloted with a few state agencies and then after some adjustments was rolled out to others.
This is not just an IT tool. Budget, Management, and future strategic planning can be used to maximized.
Building the towers is complex and individual for each business area.
Stress training for all aspects of your business.
Training is key and having the right individuals who know your budgeting and your assets to make the right decisions about how the reporting will be achieved.
The product was new coming and the vendor wanted to insure success.

Overall positive experience with excellent support from the vendor and a strong support community. Downside is there is a long journey to an implementation depending on your baseline capabilities.
Begin early, participate in communities of interest, and learn from others.
Highly complex with long implementation path.
That they would partner with more companies.
More outreach to the business side of the house to help them understand the implications and potential of adopting the capabilities ----- more importantly, to understand the risk of not building these capabilities.
Company is extremely supportive of their customers. Also works hard to integrate their new customers into the broader community of interest.

We are early in our journey, but so far everything is working as planned.
Start off small. Do not buy all modules at once.
The ease of data integration. The dashboarding is very nice as well.
Nothing I can think of yet.
Too early in the journey to have lessons learned.
Have Premier Support with dedicated resource. I recommend that for anyone that is new to this product.

Upper management would be in the best place to explain and rate their experience with Apptio.
Our Business Analyst would be the best person to ask about this.
Overall as an organization I think we are pleased with the Apptio product.
Took three years to work on transparency

The support and thought leadership from the vendor were excellent, the biggest challenges came from internal pressures and alignments.
Do not under estimate the organizational barriers to getting and reacting to the information and insights.
Aligning the financial organization needed to be at the start of the project versus leading it from an IT perspective.
Service and Support were excellent and the team worked hand and hand with the organization to be effective.
Our intenral complexity drove a need for multiple integrations making the integration approach difficult to manage and scale with excellence.
