    Appio delivering clarity in the mist of cost obscurity

    Whilst Appio have niche immature offering, it offered business value and insight from day 1.

    It provides a view that was not previously available

    Simplify our data models and internal cost tracking processes prior to implementing

    capable vendor with great technology solution. We now have better transparency of our costs than ever before and are able to make information based decisions on cost optimisation. we continue to develop and improve our use of the toolset to optimise our investments and better manage our portfolio economics

    start slowly with knowedgeable users, and avoid customisation

    performance and reliability are not as consistent as they could be

    drive us to adopt out of the box solutions and standard reports

    customise the solution less, and pay earlier attention to the touch points between applicaiton service management and infrastructure service management

    They have worked very closely with us, and helped us through the process. The effort was significant, but they have assisted every step of the way.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Identify team members strong with both corporate accounting principles AND information technology.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    It is a technically powerful product, and as such, technically complex. But it does work very well.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    The tool is very complex and requires lengthy training to master.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Perhaps more involvement (maybe) in the implementation would have helped.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Get all the team members involved up front

    Incredible Insights Right Out of the Gate

    Overall Comment

    The guidance and support from Apptio has been exceptional. Though early in our cost transparency journey, we were able to allocate 99.8% of our costs. The only challenge we had is that Apptio sales doesn't seem to be in sync with government budget cycles and their sales cycle.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Iterate. Don't worry about the data being perfect. Use the insights to drive where you improve your data sources.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The common sense approach to cost transparency and the direct linkage to the TBM Framework (ATUM Model).

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    It's new enough that we are having to grow our resources from scratch and not able to find people with experience.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    We would have done better organizatoinal change management with our stakeholders in order to create better partnerships and access to data sources.

    The Apptio team continues to be highly responsive, assisting my team with answers and direction on quick order. The level of support never dropped after implementation.

    Understanding the outcomes of the enterprise led to successful reporting.

    Overall Comment

    Vendor listened to the needs of the enterprise and the outcomes we were trying to solve. They worked intimately with us to talk through the system capabilities and to configure the first implementation. This was piloted with a few state agencies and then after some adjustments was rolled out to others.

    This is not just an IT tool. Budget, Management, and future strategic planning can be used to maximized.

    Reporting

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Building the towers is complex and individual for each business area.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Stress training for all aspects of your business.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Training is key and having the right individuals who know your budgeting and your assets to make the right decisions about how the reporting will be achieved.

    Outcomes great, but need a strong implementation strategy and patience.

    Overall positive experience with excellent support from the vendor and a strong support community. Downside is there is a long journey to an implementation depending on your baseline capabilities.

    Begin early, participate in communities of interest, and learn from others.

    Increased transparency.

    Highly complex with long implementation path.

    That they would partner with more companies.

    More outreach to the business side of the house to help them understand the implications and potential of adopting the capabilities ----- more importantly, to understand the risk of not building these capabilities.

    Start off small. Do not buy all modules at once.

    The ease of data integration. The dashboarding is very nice as well.

    Nothing I can think of yet.

    Too early in the journey to have lessons learned.

    The support and thought leadership from the vendor were excellent, the biggest challenges came from internal pressures and alignments.

    Do not under estimate the organizational barriers to getting and reacting to the information and insights.

    Aligning the financial organization needed to be at the start of the project versus leading it from an IT perspective.
