    Integration with 3rd party storage arrays is challenging.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Train the supporting storage organization more effectively

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Stability and integratin with vSphere

    Integration with storage vendors

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    The roadmap has to include self-service for the business units to perform recovery tests themselves.

    Train the supporting organizations more effectively to support the integration

    vRealize - Learning Capabilities of the Product Before Replacing It

    The adoption early on gave us exactly what we needed for visibility into our environment. After running it for a while, we wanted more, so we actually looked at a competing product. During that time, we brought VMware back and let them know we wwere looking to replace them. They realized that we were not using it the way we could, for all the things their product could do, so they dedicated an abundance of resources to us to configure vRealize, upgrade what we had, and train my team how to use it. It took a couple months, but now it works well to bring us the metrics and visibility into our environment so that we can better prevent issues, maintain optimal operation, and keep everything running smooth for the business. It was just a matter of the vendor making sure we were still using it as we should and knew how to use it.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Make sure the vendor shows you how to use and follows up with Engineering resources to ensure it is configured properly

    The metrics and information that prevents problems

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Complexity

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Follow up with resources after initial deployment

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Make sure we knew all of the functions and capabilities before signing off on the project as complete.

    VMware Site Recovery Manager works every time. It is robust and a very reliable product.

    Ensure that infrastructure components are properly designed and architected.

    VMWare Site Recovery Manager Saves Time and Headache

    The overall experience with VMWare has been fantastic, I've always stood by the product as one of the biggets innovations in IT. Not to mention the continous improvemt that the company strives for. We had a very poor experience with backups and VMWare has restore out faith so to speak with stability and trust in our solution.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Make sure you do your research and engage a vendor that will partner with you and now just attempt to make a sale. Understand your needs and license accordingly or you could be into budget inflation. VMWare isn't cheap but they are worth the money.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    This product makes having HA a breeze, configuration and management is awesome and the ability to do DRE in a matter of minutes as opposed to hours is a time saver for sure. SA's are busy and expensive, I'd rather leverage them in production and not running tests.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Sometimes if you make a decision regarding configuration at the time of installation it's not easy to change it after the fact. For example when you choose your replication types, going from array based replication to VM based replication is a large undertaking, it's not "checkbox" configuration.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    VMWare performed admirably through this whole process. If anything I would have liked to have more time with their engineers to ensure we fully understood the implications of our decisions.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    If we could do it over again I think we would reassess the data volume replication vs individual VM replication. We implemented storage replication which inceases the need for maintenance when a volume is changed (new VM, VM removal, etc).

    It integrated with our existing environment fairly easy. We worked well with the application vendor as well as the manufacturer.

    Document the configuration and perform and test recovery task multiple times and early in the process.

    once it is setup it works seamlessly.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    nothing

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Ha ve us setup the application.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Probably would have been a little more involved with the configuration.

    While there are a few limitations, the product delivers as promised

    Evaluate use cases thoroughly. KNOW your RPO and RTO ahead of time. Make sure to align storage deployment with SRM requirements

    ease of use and ability to test scenarios with zero downtime

    Limited felxibility and non-verbose logging

    Implementation was not very easy. It requires alot of work out of the box.

    The concept of the application worked well but the implementation in our environment proved to be challenging.

    Do plenty of research before trying to implement. Really understand the product.

    Implementation was more difficult than expected

    Support can sometime be slow especially when asking advanced technical questions. No issues with basic support.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Find out how much support your storage solution has before proceeding. We ran into issues on how our virtual storage was supported.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The built-in failover scripting options are very extensive and complete. It was able to handle all of our different recovery scenarios out of the box.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Need for an additional vCenter License and virtual storage support.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Better support for virtual storage, e.g. not LUN based storage

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    We would have looked at other virtual storage recovery options.
