Overall, the vendor is very knowledgeable and proficient with their product and their customer support is great. There were initial issues regarding delays in support response due to licensing the Hortonworks HDP product through SAP, but that has since been remedied. Probably the only knowledge gap sometimes is how to efficiently stand up and configure HDP within the constraints of an environment that uses a leveraged support model. This, however, is an area that Hortonworks has strived to gain understanding in with an emphasis on the implementation of HDP in a large enterprise. In the end, Hortonworks will suggest whatever architecture is appropriate and help you implement it based on the constraints that your organization enforces. The caveat is that you as an organization must be aware of what your end goal and strategic vision is for the HDP platform as you can easily place yourself in a scenario where you want to scale your environment out but find difficulty in doing so based on your previously implemented cluster architecture.
Spend plenty of time with the HDP demo beforehand. It's free and will help you gain an idea of how to proceed with a production implementation. Definitely, consider cloud options as on-premise implementations are highly cost-constrained and lack flexibility when wanting to scale out or scale dynamically.
They are Apache project contributors and focus on building out existing projects or creating new opensource content rather than focusing on proprietary product capabilities.
Provided more clear guidance on POC vs. Production capability for initial cluster implementation.
Provide less rigid constraints for the architecture rather than trying to force it to conform to potentially outdated standards.
It's all the capability of the open source community in an Enterprise-level supported package.
Good support once issues with delays via SAP OSS note submission method were resolved with SAP in our case.

Acceptable based on newness of product.
Consider flexibility in adopting new capabilities rapidly as Hadoop features are rapidly changing.
Integration with Teradata warehouse as part of the UDA.
Lock-in with Teradata.
Allow faster adoption of new features.
Consider debundling the Hadoop stack from the data warehouse product.
Limited by version of product installed.
Support is only available through Teradata. This gives a negative experience with the support offered.
Did not participate in this.

Very customer focused team.
Performance response times for analytics - what do you need? Streaming or report based.
Scalability and robust performance.
OOTB user interface (HUE).
Reconsider the versions of the integration service layers (EDGE, Hive etc).
