So far the product meets our needs, we leveraged previous investments and did not require a major reimplementation. License negotiations where ok.
Make sure your talent builds skills that are transportable from ECM to analytics, enterprise information discovery and managment, search. ECM on itself will be difficul to maintain internally. Look CAREFULY at the bundled licensing, as you may end up buying licenses for products that you do not really need in the short term, and try to stick to hosting agnostic, flexible on premise/cloud licensing models that allow you to grow capacity during burst at a minimal cost.
Strong product, nicely enables a RESTful architecture isolating the product to other so its capabilities can be consumed without interacting the product directly.
Installation can be painful and cumbersome - not enough automation. Requires deeper technical expertise than other competing products.
Complete disclosure of the licensing bundles to determine we license only what we need. Ensure the proposal process clearly articulates the non functional requirements of the solution, and that their product compares exactly to other products in the market.
Switch to platform based licensing instead of user based licensing, and implement a loosely coupled architecture that avoids costly customizations to the base product. Less reliance on external integrators and more emphasis on development of internal capabilities. ECM is now a mature segment with not much growth, as the attention is shifting to analytics, etc.
Hard to get answers unless premiums are paid.
Can be difficult to install for people unfamiliar with ECM.

Product responded very well to legislative needs and on site implementation was strong.
Implement at pace - don't delay.
client interface could be better
Change in product happened mid stream - better communication around this would be appreciated.
Implement in a big bang approach.
