    10.4 EV Installation

    Overall Comment

    The product works just as advertised however with this big of an implementation there is quite a bit of daily upkeep by my engineers. We have 16 EV servers and 4 SQL servers and daily reboots are required.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Be prepared for the daily work your engineers need to do and make sure they are all trained and certified.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    It works as advertised and stored archives. We are over 1 Billion items.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    The link with their backup product.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Unfortunately, we also use Netbackup and the integration between the two products isn't there. That is a real pain point for our organisation.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    We would break out separate index servers, run active/active clusters and we would put the data on SSD drives.

    Service & support - overall comment

    Support is readily available however getting a higher tier engineer sometimes is difficult.

    Good product but need better client side search interface.

    Overall Comment

    Symantec Enterprise Vault and E-Discovery tool is stable and robust. Discovery Accelerator can handle most E-Discovery request and very easy to use, with minimal training needed. The EV Outlook Plug-in is good but need improvement. The EV Outlook search is not friendly and needed major revamp to be more user-friendly.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    lack of retention policy will greatly impact the EV architecture and growth rate, making the product more difficult to manage.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Greatly reduce email archive PST file for IT and reduce email management time for end users.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Their Outlook vault search is horrible and did not improve from version 9 to 11.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Provide better training to 3rd party integrators to ensure they know how to probably architect and configure the product without relying on Symantec internal tech support.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Evaluate 3rd party integrator before going into implementation. Need to invest more time to have a solid email retention policy which the business signed off.

    Mature EV Cloud for migration from on-premises archived mail to Microsoft O365.

    Overall Comment

    Our organization migrated to Microsoft Office 365 mail and was sold the Microsoft O365 archive solution which was not mature enough for highly regulated and Legal Discovery burdened organization with massive public records requirements. EV Cloud offered a cloud solution with robust searching and tools.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Build-in project time to handle your migration size of archived e-mail. Negotiate costs with the vendor.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Robust tools, Disaster Recovery savings, and Service Level Agreement.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Cost is expensive for organizations, EV Cloud is a matured solution.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    The vendor did very well after negotiated contract was executed.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Purchase EV on-line before implementing Microsoft Online Archiving tools. Scrutinize Microsoft representations.

    Overall a good experience, however ever since the Symantec Veritas split, the service has seriously degraded and leadership is obviously lost with how to resolve issues and structure in the organization - both on the Symantec and Veritas side.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Hold the vendor accountable for their lack of knowledge of their own product. Build in penalties.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Features of the product are good, just hard to support.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Lack of internal support since the vendor split.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Listen to the voice of the customer.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Determine the complexity and the vendor's ability to support it. Received better services for implementation from 3rd party vendors than from Symantec PS directly.

    once we got a third party to assist, it was simple to do!

    The vendor was willing to support in any way, we had a delayed start due to contracting issues with the third party.

    get exec. leadership buy-in on the criteria's (days to archive).

    Day to day operations are satisfactory. The onboarding and implementation was less than smooth.

    Hold the vendor to more frequent check-point/milestone meetings.

    daily performance. Level 1 support is pretty good.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Occasional performance issues are completely out of our control.

    The on-boarding project manager was not very familiar with the product.
