Customizations are very costly.

Troux product is very mature and fits quite well with our organization's requirements. The Plainview team has provided outstanding support both in the installation and deployment of the Troux product, but have also openly considered input from our organization for future product improvements.

Sales experience was subpar. The installation and implementation experience was much better.

Application product lifecycle management and Technical product standards work well. UI cumbersome for end users

Vendor provides excellent support. Learning curve isn't steep but requires customer to figure out what they want to do in order to best align the tool with their needs.

The schema is mature and flexible. The tool hasn’t changed much in the last 10 years, so the user experience is clunky contributing to a poor overall user experience. A technology refresh on the user interface would greatly improve the value of the tool. A new insights capability is a step in the right direction.

The scope and breadth of solution advertized was in alignment with our needs in establishing a mature Enterprise Architecture Practice. While the system functionally met the needs, it was quite limited in its ability to deliver the highest level capabilities around modeling, data integration and proper UI design for data stewardship. In addition, the licensing model was in poor alignment with the federated data stewardship model we intended on employing. In the end, we divested ourselves after only 2 years.

Troux has been in use for several years for us with very meaningful information, however managing the portfolio is very time consuming, in particular the lifecycles of each product. When we approached Troux on integrating with Technopedia/BDNA to maintain this manufacture lifecycle they were able to do this with some professional services, however they were limited by license what they could expose to the customer (this may have changed by now). The real benefit of an EA tool like Troux is only realized with the data is accurate and up to date, if the leadership doesn't have that commitment then it's unlikely to be accepted as a useful tool. Also limiting is the way Troux does their licensing, in order for the organization to benefit from the solution the entire organization needs to be able to access it - the cost to do that was too much for us so it was scaled back to only those that maintained the data - big mistake for us. Make sure you work with your sales rep to ensure everyone in the org has the necessary access needed to understand the value of Troux.

The consulting arm tends to take a "Tell us what you want" mentality that works great with mature EA organizations, but causes confusion with organizations that are still trying to establish foundational practices.

Good Tool, does what we need it to do. A lot of work to maintain and update data. The metamodel is very comprehensive and fixed. Takes a lot of effort to customize. A Large effort to generate new reports (needs to be done in the backend). Don't really use a lot of the out of box reports and visualizations. Learning curve to feel comfortable with the tool and understanding objects relationships. Consulting services were good at first, however now it is very difficult to ask a question without having to go through a formal request and paying for it. Currently undergoing migration of the IaaS provider at the request of Plainview, losing VPN tunnel to directly access the database to be able to develop reports. Having to pay additional costs on our end in order to develop work around.
