Gartner’s view of the enterprise backup and recovery software solution market is focused on transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users. It is not focused on the market as it is today. Gartner defines the market as follows: Backup and recovery software solutions are designed to capture a point-in-time copy (backup) of an enterprise workload and write the data out to a secondary storage device for the purpose of recovering this data in case of loss. The solution can be offered as an appliance, as software only or as a vendor-managed service offering.
"Veeam Backup : Appeared to be a Mountain to Implement, But Support Made it a Mole Hill!"
Veeam Backup & Replication has been an outstanding choice for our enterprise backups! We had some difficulties with our timing in getting up and going due to a hardware vendor, but the Veeam team came through adding an additional month onto our license so that we were actually able to use the product for the time we subscribed. This was the first of several above and beyond support situations. When it became clear we needed additional assistance in getting setup, we had a support manager who took a personal interest in getting us fully operational. We had a unique situation, which happened to have a unique solution using Direct SAN Attach. The hand-holding was not complete until we had nominal backups and restores. The overall experience with Veeam has been stellar to date!
"Data Protection Suite covers all the bases to protect your data."
My overall experience has been superb. The various software components and hardware appliances have worked well together. Data protection central can be used as the single pane of glass dashboard to the overall health of your backups using either Networker/Avamar. I like how everything is no consolidated on a Data Domain backend versus the storage being separate for Networker and Avamar. It is more cost effective to expand the Data Domain storage versus the previous implementation of expanding the Avamar grid. I like the ease of backing up VMs in the VMware environment once it has been setup. No more installing the backup software, just set the tags and let it go. We were also using Cloud boost to move older protected data off-premise and to the cloud, which worked nicely until we reached our storage licensed limit. We are using Networker to backup systems that do not dedupe well and for systems that we backup straight to the cloud. For client reporting we use DPA and direct notifications thru Networker. I like the ability to create group reports in DPA. My main gripe is that the support team can do I better job of providing holistic support. Overall this is a very robust and intergrated suite.
"The Ferrari of Backup Systems"
Cohesity has been a true time saver for our organization. After the initial setup of the application, creating new backup jobs takes minutes (compared to an hour+ in our previous system). The GUI is simple to use and intuitive. On top of everything else this product offers, their support network has been incredible. We've had a few bugs in releases and other issues and their support staff has always been constant with their communications and provided solutions in a timely manner. UPDATE 1-14-2021: Our organization suffered a critical ransomware attack, effectively crippling our entire infrastructure (some 600+ servers and 2500 PCs). Cohesity has literally saved us hundreds of hours of work and I'd say it prevented us from having to actually pay the ransom note. We have been recovering systems and file shares from known good backups without any real issues. We found a few problems with how we had configured some of our backup jobs (not a Cohesity issue, but something we did) but that's been a good learning opportunity for us as well. Our old backup solution would have not only been unsuccessful but would have forced us to rebuild a majority of our systems. With Cohesity, we've been able to recover machines and file shares, verify they're clean, and bring the applications back online. We still have a ways to go as we prioritize what comes up first, but it's been a very successful journey so far. Frankly, we all still have jobs and a functional hospital because we have had so much success with Cohesity. UPDATE 7/20/2021: We are still extremely pleased with Cohesity. We are backing up more data now, including our entire PACS imaging system, and have just made another investment in new nodes. UPDATE 11/30/2021: Cohesity continues to shine in our organization!
"Rubrik: The back-line defence that you need when the front-line inevitably fails"
Rubrik is an essential for any relevant business in the modern day. On the front-line your users try to sift through the many evolving attack vectors (like phishing) constantly. While their vigilance is a key piece of the puzzle, their failure is inevitable. Can you blame them? When that happens, you need Rubrik in your corner to clean up the mess with ease. I would not be doing business without the assurance that I have Rubrik as my safety net. I've witnessed Rubrik save an organisation from a ransomware attack first-hand within just a couple days. Then on the days where cyber-attacks aren't taking place, it's strengthening your data governance and making often taxing IT activities easy. It's a no-brainer!
"Very solid reliable and Backup and Recovery Solution. Great product, Easy to manage."
Commavult helped to organize our company backup and it was faster to restore virtual machines and share folders. We earlier used other commercials products but those products did not meet our requirements. Commavult is easy to setup and Commavult supports great and they quickly respond. They shared knowledgeable digital documents so the customer also can identified and fix their own issues using that documents.Commvult backup and data recovery protect our data and to ensure our business continuity and resiliency. We use Commvault backup and data recovery solution our on premise infrastructure and have been a happy user for five years. Commavualt Backup and replication allows us to backup all our branch office infrastructure and replicate these to a central location in order to archive all data in one location. We can highly recommended this Commavult product.
"NetBackup is the Rolls Royce of backup products"
NetBackup as a product is fantastic, been using the product on and off for 25 years and saw it's evolution, from VERITAS to SYMANTEC and back to VERITAS again I can say that R&D has always been great, security has always been to their top priority, features and enhancements always provided, but like all R&D sometimes it takes time to get it right first time.
"A high-end solution, applicable for SMEs. "
We are a fairly unusual use-case. Using a VMware-based SDDC (vCenter/ESXi/NSX), physically located and hardware-managed by a big operator in one remote datacenter, to run about 15 to 18 rather big VMs (big by their memory and disks sizes). We were looking to boost and redesign our system-backups (of these VMs as a whole). The software systems running within those VMs have their own integrated data backup solution to remote sites, but we wanted a better remote-site backup of the VMs sustaining these software systems. Yet we're a small company with about 2M€ turn-over. NAKIVO Backup & Replication, which we knew nothing about before, quickly came up as a very good choice for our use-case, after internally reviewing some other products.
"Acronis Cyber Backup - Always Secure"
My overall experience with this product has been truly amazing. Monitoring and scheduling backups becomes so easy with the help of its unique intuitive web-based management console. Its backup and restore process is just amazing and flawless. It is easy to deploy as well. So all in all a great overall experience.
"A Fully Functional Backup Solution to Compliment Office 365"
We have just wrapped up our onboarding of the product, but we've been using it since April. The onboarding went very smoothly, and the features and capabilities are exactly what was advertised. The onboarding team has been fantastic as well. We were looking for a cloud backup solution for our Office 365 environment, and this does everything that we could possibly want it to do. We are very impressed.
"SEP Sesam - Satisfaction"
SEP Sesam works well. In comparison to previous product, it is faster so the backup window has shrunk. Set it, but don't forget it. Keeping up with it is simple. I have it scripted to notify with logs if there is an issue, or just a successful notification if there are no issues. Support is very helpful, and willing to make sure you are satisfied.
"Veeam 11 rocks"
Overall deployment of Veeam Availability Suite 11 was very straightforward and easy. We have 3 Veeam B&R servers in 3 different locations. Enterprise Manager is a big plus and works well as a self service portal. Impressed with the overall performance of backups and stability of the product. We are backing up to various storage appliances using ReFS as primary repository. Backup copy jobs are then utilized to send another copy to HPE StoreOnce appliances and Dell tape drives. Impressed with restore times from the primary repository. Primarily do Image based backups on Vmware and HyperV, but do have some Linux physical boxes as well. The basic Linux agents work well, but have had some issues getting Solaris to work. Windows Agents for SQL have worked well. Overall very impressed with V11. We have over 2500 instances and plan on looking further into CDP and Linux secure repositories.
"Peace of mind in a crisis. Zerto does its job so you can be confident about keeping yours"
I have been a fan of Zerto for over half a decade. Their support has been great in my experience and their account team and sales engineers are very responsive as well. There hasn’t been any major issues we haven’t been able to work through thus far. Some of the recent improvements in 8.5 solve the majority of my negative takes on the Zerto Platform. These include the way VPGs are automatically redistributed across other ZVRAs in the cluster so putting a VMware host into maintenance mode no longer impacts my SLAs and their sync times.
"It is a product optimized to protect a variety of infrastructure regardless of the asset l"
We are dramatically protecting all our infrastructure with NetBackup Appliances. They provide enough features and performance to dramatically protect any infrastructure of any size or type.
"Reliable backup and restore"
Veritas BackupExec is a very versatile backup solution. I worked with Backupexec for several years and installed it at several companies. Backups and restore are very reliable. BackupExec also has very good reporting functionalities.
"Perform this service by saving applications consistent backup and avoid unwanted risk"
Azure backup provides users to have data backups and VM restoration effortlessly. Product comes with an amiable user interface and configurations straightforward. Since it is from Microsoft family, we can assure all customizations, integration, services and support as per benchmark. There don’t have any features to check the backup machine having priority jobs running or not. End to End automation is challenging due to insufficient API’s. Since it is recently launched one, powerful feature should only be come from surveys.
"Druva: The 5-Star All-Star solution for your cloud based backups"
The Tech support at Druva is one of the best I have encountered over the 34 years in the business. It is a pleasure to speak with them and their willingness to go out of their way to resolve any issue until it is done correctly. The product works and has been very reliable . I started with their onsite services, and slowly migrated to the cloud. In fact they were one of my first CLOUD based solutions. Which gave me confidence to allow more of our IT infrastructure to venture to the cloud.
"Reliable and very easy to use backup system."
For the use case of backing up images of system critical servers and devices Barracuda has proven to be exactly what we needed. It has never broken, the agent is compatible with many legacy windows servers. It is easy to restore a backup if necessary. Effectively it operates without interfering with any important systems while fully accomplishing it's job. Very low amount of maintenance necessary. Highly recommended.
"We will definitely be expanding our Exagrid footprint as capacity needs grow"
Coming from a Veeam infrastructure using cheaper storage, as more critical systems have been brought online i wanted a more enterprise level target. We obiously went with Exagrid and in the 8 or so months since deploying Exagrid, i've been extremely satisfied and exagrid blew away my expectations. My support rep made the experience great, She's emailing me when an update is available, upon scheduling a meeting to update the appliance the patches are being staged to make the upgrade meeting quick and painless.
