Gartner’s view of the enterprise backup and recovery software solution market is focused on transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users. It is not focused on the market as it is today. Gartner defines the market as follows: Backup and recovery software solutions are designed to capture a point-in-time copy (backup) of an enterprise workload and write the data out to a secondary storage device for the purpose of recovering this data in case of loss. The solution can be offered as an appliance, as software only or as a vendor-managed service offering.
"The best backup application: Veeam backup and restoration"
We are using this application for 4 years. It is very convenient and user friendly. The backup and job creation process is so simple and trustworthy. It is the best data recovery tool for us. It also handles our Disaster recovery, When we have lost 62% of the server and this app has helped us to get through it. We have more than 300 clients and out of which 200+ clients, Veeam has been installed and we are performing data storage for these clients. We are also calling the veeam backup and support team when we face any issues. We are also using the email system in which the veeam sends data to a particular email. We have created one section in our ticketing tool for our backup tickets. We are absolutely loving new veeam 11 A. Its new cloud computing capabilities are very much appreciable. As we have hybrid cloud infra, It provides cloud-native backup options. We are also using the VAC console to manage all our clients. It is also very helpful for us to make data strategies according to the variation of jobs, storage and DR ratio. We are also performing replication jobs on the application.
"Data Protection Suite covers all the bases to protect your data."
My overall experience has been superb. The various software components and hardware appliances have worked well together. Data protection central can be used as the single pane of glass dashboard to the overall health of your backups using either Networker/Avamar. I like how everything is no consolidated on a Data Domain backend versus the storage being separate for Networker and Avamar. It is more cost effective to expand the Data Domain storage versus the previous implementation of expanding the Avamar grid. I like the ease of backing up VMs in the VMware environment once it has been setup. No more installing the backup software, just set the tags and let it go. We were also using Cloud boost to move older protected data off-premise and to the cloud, which worked nicely until we reached our storage licensed limit. We are using Networker to backup systems that do not dedupe well and for systems that we backup straight to the cloud. For client reporting we use DPA and direct notifications thru Networker. I like the ability to create group reports in DPA. My main gripe is that the support team can do I better job of providing holistic support. Overall this is a very robust and intergrated suite.
"The Ferrari of Backup Systems"
Cohesity has been a true time saver for our organization. After the initial setup of the application, creating new backup jobs takes minutes (compared to an hour+ in our previous system). The GUI is simple to use and intuitive. On top of everything else this product offers, their support network has been incredible. We've had a few bugs in releases and other issues and their support staff has always been constant with their communications and provided solutions in a timely manner. UPDATE 1-14-2021: Our organization suffered a critical ransomware attack, effectively crippling our entire infrastructure (some 600+ servers and 2500 PCs). Cohesity has literally saved us hundreds of hours of work and I'd say it prevented us from having to actually pay the ransom note. We have been recovering systems and file shares from known good backups without any real issues. We found a few problems with how we had configured some of our backup jobs (not a Cohesity issue, but something we did) but that's been a good learning opportunity for us as well. Our old backup solution would have not only been unsuccessful but would have forced us to rebuild a majority of our systems. With Cohesity, we've been able to recover machines and file shares, verify they're clean, and bring the applications back online. We still have a ways to go as we prioritize what comes up first, but it's been a very successful journey so far. Frankly, we all still have jobs and a functional hospital because we have had so much success with Cohesity. UPDATE 7/20/2021: We are still extremely pleased with Cohesity. We are backing up more data now, including our entire PACS imaging system, and have just made another investment in new nodes. UPDATE 11/30/2021: Cohesity continues to shine in our organization!
"Rubrik: The back-line defence that you need when the front-line inevitably fails"
Rubrik is an essential for any relevant business in the modern day. On the front-line your users try to sift through the many evolving attack vectors (like phishing) constantly. While their vigilance is a key piece of the puzzle, their failure is inevitable. Can you blame them? When that happens, you need Rubrik in your corner to clean up the mess with ease. I would not be doing business without the assurance that I have Rubrik as my safety net. I've witnessed Rubrik save an organisation from a ransomware attack first-hand within just a couple days. Then on the days where cyber-attacks aren't taking place, it's strengthening your data governance and making often taxing IT activities easy. It's a no-brainer!
"A Fully Functional Backup Solution to Compliment Office 365"
We have just wrapped up our onboarding of the product, but we've been using it since April. The onboarding went very smoothly, and the features and capabilities are exactly what was advertised. The onboarding team has been fantastic as well. We were looking for a cloud backup solution for our Office 365 environment, and this does everything that we could possibly want it to do. We are very impressed. Update: We have been using Druva for a full year now. It has not disappointed at all! We have a recurring meeting set up with a Druva rep to ensure our needs are being met. This shows a great level of dedication to customers. They don't just handle the deploy and onboarding and then move onto the next new customer. When we've had questions, support has also been great to deal with. We have also seen constant improvements to the interface, so the product keeps getting better. Backups have been working consistently, and they are quite easy to review to ensure there aren't any issues happening. Logs are also helpful and easy to follow if we need to dig into error reasons more. We would certainly stand by this product and recommend it to others.
"We bought a backup system, but gave our colleagues far more"
One of the biggest challenges was to backup and protect data on a large scale of different devices, operating systems and locations throughout the country. With more than 300 employees of whom 80 are located far from the centralized data servers located in Belgrade, it was of the utmost importance to be able to administrate the Backup and browse documents remotely. Especially for people who live and work outside of the institution and use end-point backup through the public network. Commvault also enabled to restore data through a centrally controlled management console, eliminating the need for system administrators to work in the field. The choice of Commvault, which, for us as administrators, was understandable and easy to implement, with the help of a local partner, enabled us to control the complete backup process from only one location, from one central console. By implementing the backup system on client computers, in addition to the security of information and data, we have enabled all our colleagues to access their documents in the backup when they are on the road, on vacation, in the country or abroad. One of the most interesting functionalities is "EDGE DRIVE", that is, the ability of certain users to use this system as a private cloud, so that they can exchange documents between them without sending them via email, or by placing them on a Share folder. Since this system has been in use for 6 years now, we rightly say that our colleagues are satisfied. They use it every day, but it has gained its greatest advantage that employees can access their data and documents even when they are not in the office. Emphasis should be placed on data protection itself and on very sensitive data. The Commvault recognized this need and implemented functionality those data.
"Review after 8 years of use"
My experience with NetBackup spans over 8 years, i have worked and deployed several versions, troughouth my experience the solution is verry powreful and adapts to any type of need from the very medium company to the large company it's support all of the must backup targets (NDMP, VMWARE, WINDOWS, LINUX/UNIX, ORACLE, SQL SERVER ...)
"IT Pros should take a hard look at Nakivo. This tool is world class for SMBs"
I have had a project open to find and implement an effective DR and Backup plan for 8 months. I have tried several tools, and in the past, I built my own with open source and paid tools from different vendors. In the end, I decided to go with Nakivo, I feel like I have access to the best Support team I could ask for, and the price is more than fair.
"SEP Sesam - Satisfaction"
SEP Sesam works well. In comparison to previous product, it is faster so the backup window has shrunk. Set it, but don't forget it. Keeping up with it is simple. I have it scripted to notify with logs if there is an issue, or just a successful notification if there are no issues. Support is very helpful, and willing to make sure you are satisfied.
"Veeam 11 rocks"
Overall deployment of Veeam Availability Suite 11 was very straightforward and easy. We have 3 Veeam B&R servers in 3 different locations. Enterprise Manager is a big plus and works well as a self service portal. Impressed with the overall performance of backups and stability of the product. We are backing up to various storage appliances using ReFS as primary repository. Backup copy jobs are then utilized to send another copy to HPE StoreOnce appliances and Dell tape drives. Impressed with restore times from the primary repository. Primarily do Image based backups on Vmware and HyperV, but do have some Linux physical boxes as well. The basic Linux agents work well, but have had some issues getting Solaris to work. Windows Agents for SQL have worked well. Overall very impressed with V11. We have over 2500 instances and plan on looking further into CDP and Linux secure repositories.
"NetBackup is my trusted backup product for my organization."
We are using mostly XX In my organization and NetBackup is very good in terms of integrating and functionality. NetBackup also able to recover data when some of our system got compromised. We also using NetApp as main storage system and NetBackup NDMP Accelerator did well to protect our huge E-Learning system.
"DR Testing and Datacenter Consolidation made easy with Zerto"
I've been a big fan of Zerto for a few years now and finally was able to get it purchased. Took a bit of convincing but after doing a POC I was able to actually show the benefits of using Zerto as our DR solution as well as using Zerto to consolidating multiple satellite locations into one datacenter.
"Fantastic product for Backup solutions"
Veritas backup exec has all backup solutions in one application like disk backup, tape backup and cloud backups it has also DR solution which makes it different than other tools. Deduplication, Encryption and compression is best out of available products
"Azure Backup is a wonderful resource!"
Overall Azure Backup has been very reliable and was simple to setup. The agent on the servers and local systems is easy to use and the Azure portal has about as much information as you would need to verify backups are running successfully. The cost estimates and billing projections are a great feature and when coupled with any other Azure servicethe one place stop to manage it all is wonderful.
"Reliable and very easy to use backup system."
For the use case of backing up images of system critical servers and devices Barracuda has proven to be exactly what we needed. It has never broken, the agent is compatible with many legacy windows servers. It is easy to restore a backup if necessary. Effectively it operates without interfering with any important systems while fully accomplishing it's job. Very low amount of maintenance necessary. Highly recommended.
"We will definitely be expanding our Exagrid footprint as capacity needs grow"
Coming from a Veeam infrastructure using cheaper storage, as more critical systems have been brought online i wanted a more enterprise level target. We obiously went with Exagrid and in the 8 or so months since deploying Exagrid, i've been extremely satisfied and exagrid blew away my expectations. My support rep made the experience great, She's emailing me when an update is available, upon scheduling a meeting to update the appliance the patches are being staged to make the upgrade meeting quick and painless.
"Great product, UI and amazing technical support"
We have been using Unitrends recovery for the last 5 years and so far it has been a good experience with their hardware, user interface and support which has been amazing. In general we had some issues with some of our systems having hardware failures but we were able to recover it with our unitrends backups
