    Product(s): Silverback

Innovative and agile EMM tool that is regularly first to market with new features.

    Overall Comment

Innovative and agile EMM tool that is regularly first to market with new features.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

Consider whether you have a requirement to exercise the data security controls in the Microsoft mobile apps (Office, etc) as this is something that only Microsoft's EMM tool (Intune) can do.

What do you like most about the product or service?

The device enrollment user experience is the most simple we have seen.

What do you dislike most about the product?

It can't exercise the data security controls in the Microsoft mobile apps (Office, etc). This is a Microsoft restriction rather than a lack of Silverback innovation.

    Product capabilities - overall comment

Not being able to exercise the security controls in the Microsoft mobile apps is the main gap but this is a problem faced by all non-Microsoft EMM tools.

Service & support - overall comment

    Responsive local account team

Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

    Good support throughout deployment

    Product(s): Silverback

Great specialised MDM/EMM Tool. Does it fit into your broader picture?

    Overall Comment

Honesty: no misrepresentation of the product features or capabilities. Committment: vendor met all committed delivery timelines and capability drops. Timeliness: Day 0 support for all new releases for Win mobiles, iOS and Android. Responsiveness: quick response and resolution of software bugs. Vision: clear sense of direction and ability to incorporate / prioritise feature we required.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    1. Be very clear about your requirements. What is the key business drivers, what kind of devices are you targeting, corporate devices only - v. BYPD/CYOD, do you need bespoke and/or public apps, is asset management and cost management important, do you need operational efficiencies, etc. 2. Put yourself into your customer shoes - regular users, operational/management staff, etc. Focus on making the experience simple, but not too simple where it needs to be.

What do you like most about the product or service?

It's simple and intuitive. This is a massive benefit as it fills a very specific niche and does the job very well. Development team is small, focused and gets on top of things very quickly when the issues comes up. Cloud-based deployment model (with on-premise "cloud connectors") allows for rapid patching and software changes outside of the enterprise change management cycle. Initial set of integration API's is pretty solid. Silverback now forms part of Matrix's broader product set which shows their vision and sense of direction, but this is not something that's applicable to us.

What do you dislike most about the product?

Whilest the software (apart from the "cloud connetors" connecting SaaS service to on-premise LDAP and PKI) is running in the cloud, it does not use cloud autoscaling features- so architecture still needs to evolve. API's are available, but they cater for only a subset of functions; if the Silverback product (or other Matrix's products) were to be fully integrated into Office365, etc - more work is required.

What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

Tighter association with the large platform / integration vendors, e.g. Microsoft, IBM, HP.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

We looked at other MDM tools and should have stopped and switched to Silverback earlier, saving time and money. More time and efforts should have been spent on device testing; the likely outcome would have been Win/iOS mixture and elimination of Android. Overall however it was a remarkably smooth deployment for a project of such scale and comlexity (approx 24,000 devices, 3x OS types, large number of frequently changing bespoke mobile apps, etc).

    Product capabilities - overall comment

Silverback does exactly what we need it to do. It does it well and we do not hear about it much - which is exactly the experience we wanted to create. As above, the challenge will be going forward, as more organisations move to Office 365, where and how will Silverback fit in. A lot will depend on individual organisations, their specific strategies and how they are set to deliver their vision of the unified management - and whether they are prepared to accept Intune/EMS limitations and shortcomings.

Service & support - overall comment

We have round the clock support to cater for overseas locations. All calls are logged and resolved within the contract4d timeframes (normally much quicker).

Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

That was relatively smooth and quick. AD integration and pki integration works very well, in particular where complex directory structures and multiple CA"s are concerned.

completely integrated into the Matrix42 portfolio.
