SQL 2016 set of BI tools is leaps and bounds beyond anything else on the market today

So far we have only had minor issues that were very quickly fixed by contacting Microsoft. We are very happy with the overall performance and are very excited for the future capabilities still being designed by Microsoft around BI and Analytics. The only issue that we had so far is with the utilization of the new MDS user interface - Specifically around adding supper users for MDS. This has been corrected and all else is working as expected.

MSFT SSAS Implementation.

Good when using experienced resources.

Rethinking our first try with Microsoft

Users enjoyed the product experience because it integrated well with Office Applications. We very much struggled with ETL timings. We also struggled bringing up 3rd party products to improve integration with Oracle E-Business Suite.

Low cost of ownership; skills can be spread throughout an entire team.

Ease of implementation, small cost of ownership. Our focus can be on expanding offerings rather than just keeping with patches, etc.

Great products, but many are piecemeal.

Great products, but many are piecemeal, so you take a little here and a little there and our IT organization did not vet the needs or potential work involved. It has a lot of drawbacks, as the decision was entirely made in our IT department, without any input from the internal stakeholders responsible for the product. Because of this, the initiative is failing. They hired me on in August 2014 and I'm responsible for reconciling these views moving forward.

SQL Server Analysis Services / Reporting Services

Ease of use along with overall cost adds to the quick implementation of this tool.

There are some limitations to the software and nuances that can make it not user friendly. But overall cost along with integration into the Microsoft product line is less.

Migrations for this version were simple and clear.

While SSRS is a great end user product, the implementation procedures are not always clean from vers. to vers. and technical support is weak and expensive.
