SimpliVity was excellent to work with. They made sure that the cluster was up and running and even assisted with parts of the deployment.
This product really does what the vender says. It really does offer the compression ratio and easy recover.
How easy and efficient the technology really is.
Nothing. SimpliVity came in did an assessment and spec the boxes we did the deployment and everything just worked. They checked the backup schedule and verified it was working.
The do all the upgrades and asssit with any issues quickly..

Our entire implementation of SimpliVity went extremely well. I had a few calls with support to do balancing and fix one server that I messed up during transfer from our previous system. The calls were very late at night and the support person was able to help me out immediately and fix the problems quickly. We went from a single SAN with no DR to a fully redundant local cluster and DR site in less than 6 months. Some of the only problems we had were with the networking aspect of getting the DR up and running and had nothing to do with SimpliVity directly. Had we not had those issues, we could have got SimpliVity fully up and running in about 3 months. We've also decreased the complexity of our provisioning process for new servers so it takes less than one minute. We have used SimpliVity's backup/DR to create an up-to-date copy of an SQL database for reporting purposes in less than 1 minute. Also love the fact that it's essentially an all-in-one interface, taking advantage of VMWare's plugins for the EXE and Web versions.
DR that is essentially built into the product and took hardly any time to get set-up and running.
We would have had the DR site - networking wise - up and running before putting in SimpliVity.
SimpliVity service and support is outstanding at ALL hours.

The product has performed as expected by delivering high availability, redundancy, backup/recovery and DR in a nice package without the complications of legacy stack solutions that are costly and labor resource heavy. Support from SimpliVity has been excellent, it is one number to call no matter if it is VM or hardware related. Support has been a partner, not making you feel like just another customer calling into a help desk with multi-tier support.
Consider all the challenges you are looking to solve for including labor, skills, hardware, upgrades, etc and then see what fits to solve them. Overcome the barrier that it is too good to be true, with technology like SimpliVity it was not hard to take the leap of faith and be surprised it was true.
Deduplication and compression that works out of the box without risk to impacting performance! Other claim they can do it, but do they or can they? Toss in all the tools to make your life easier and lower your TCO.
It is not a show stopper, but having an HP hardware option would be nice.
I would not say "differently' but rather an enhancement to leverage the powerful backup solution and include an agent for the physical servers that may exist in your environment.
Since hyper-converged solutions were not mainstream at the time, I am not sure there was much we could have done in regards to decision making for the original infrastructure design. Hyperconvergence has changed that thinking forever.
Support has been excellent, a true partnership. When you call you get a resource that is engaged and knowledgeable that will see your issue through beginning to end.

Great product with support to back it up. Very responsive and helpful in all aspects of the implementation of planning, cost analysis, system needs and configuration and the company has a very dedicated team that is very proud of the solution they provide.
Do your homework, make them prove the benefits for "your " needs and the organization's needs.
Having our IT infrastructure simplified while being able to mange with tools we already have in place.(VCenter for example)
Done it even earlier then 2016!
So far support has been excellent, even on Sundays if we're in working on something and we need some assistance.

SimpliVity has been the most revolutionary product I have seen since VMware. How VMware disrupted the then orthodox datacenter, SimpliVity has done so now. Implementing, establishing or migrating a data center or VM's, and establishing business continuity with data protection has never been as simple as it is today. All done with far fewer vendors, contracts, or 3rd party applications. To reach the same level of performance, agility, high availability, data protection, and geographical protection would have been finically prohibitive with any other vendor or product! Think of SimpliVity like Lego’s, let your imagination run while with the endless possibilities of what you can do and build at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions. …and If you are about green initiatives, SimpliVity will lower you BTU output like no other. Once implemented I realized that not only did I have an extremely dynamic virtual infrastructure but I could also all SimpliVity to disrupt my data center infrastructure as well by reducing: Switch port counts, HVAC needs, UPS needs, and current/future square footage. All of which scream lower opex/capex.
Don't pay for an implementation service-- the solution is far too easy to configure and get up and running to need extra help. But, if you find you need extra help, call support--they are the best in the business!
This solution allows me to focus on our end-users needs and relationships vs keeping the lights on. I can provide my employer with a Highly available virtual infrastructure, that has adjustable data protection to meet the needs of each solution (neither over protecting or under protecting, thus saving significant costs), that unleashes our system admins from orthodox limitations and cost restrictions, at a cost far less than any solution we previously deployed and less than other hyper-converged solutions on the market today. SimpliVity has increased our ability significantly while reducing our FTE and budgetary needs all while providing a superior virtual environment. The SimpliVity solution has stabilized our environment and directly led to fewer system outages, enhanced service rendering, and less infrastructure consumption. We graded SimpliVity support highest among all the vendors we receive support from. All of which makes for an extremely satisfied campus and end user population.
I've pondered this question at length and I currently don't have a dislike regarding the product or service!
be more like SimpliVity!
Analyzed our environment better before we purchased. There were far too many positive outcomes and cost savings that we didn’t anticipate post implementation—all of which were added to an extensive list of expected positive outcomes pre-implementation.
Most revolutionary product since VMware! Most postive disruptive product I've seen yet!

The product is not fully mature but no longer bleeding edge. Performance is excellent and management is blazingly fast. The experience is night and day different from our previous non-hyper converged solution.
The marketing is not just hype. The product really performs as sold.
The time spent managing a virtualized infrastructure is greatly reduced. I don't wait for things to happen anymore.
I would have liked to have a more experienced 3rd party reseller to work with.
I would push for a larger budget for the project and add an offsite node as a disaster recovery. It would let us better utilize the quick backups that SimpliVity is capable of.
I have contacted support twice and both times the person who answered the phone was knowledgable and able to help with the problem.

The deployment of the solution in comparison to the integration of a full stack of single products is so much faster and smoother. Running the systems now for more than a year has fully proven our expectations. It is so much easier to handle than every layer on its own. Ideal for units with only few IT staff.
Be careful with calculating RAM requirements as the internal SimpliVity VM needs quite an amount of memory on its own.
The smart deduplication of data works throughout devices even across different sites. This makes backups extremely efficient.
We had some issues over the time (HW and SW). Hardware issues were the replacement of disks, which work on time and without any complaints. Enquiries at the SimpliVity service desk were answered quick. Support engineers seem all to be very experienced and

Easy to install and manage. Backup recovery is easy especially file recovery. Data migration has been a little challenging, but most VMs work great. The support center has been very responsive and they do a thorough job. Engineers are not condescending and treat you as a professional.
Make sure you design you implementation for adequate growth.
Backup and recovery. Easy to manage in VMWare.
Somewhat challenging to add new units.
Quicker implementation schedules.
Buy a larger system to start out with. We found we wanted to put most of our data on the Simplivity systems.
The system works as advertised.
I have used the support and they are prompt and have always solved my problems. The only down side was the initial call. I had to wait 15 minutes before someone took my call.

SimpliVity worked very hard with us to satisfy our operational needs versus our budgetary constraints. Sales and engineering personnel were very responsive to our requests for additional information. Anytime we needed to speak to an engineer to get a better understanding of SimpliVity, they were quick to provide a technical resource. From an administration point of view, SimpliVity has freed up a lot of time in my day to focus on other projects. In one single stack of hardware, I can administer my VMs, manage my backups, and control all of my storage with ease. As a person that has to also work with our core networking and firewalls, it is nice to be able to spend less time worrying about my VM environment. We run a mixed environment of file servers, TIFF image repositories, SQL databases, Linux VMs, and internal app servers. All of our VMs are running better than ever and our DR strategy has been greatly simplified by utilizing off-site backups which we can restore at a secondary location in seconds. The built-in deduplication and compression in SimpliVity have allowed us to store all of our data on much less disk space than on our previous storage array. I hope to continue expanding the use of SimpliVity in our organization.
As a prospective customer you should approach SimpliVity with a healthy dose of skepticism; however, you need to take some of their claims about data efficiency at face value. I have had to tell many prospective customers that at the end of the day, their solution does what they claim it will even if it sounds too good to be true.
The single point of contact for support is indispensable for our agency. Regardless of whether it's a hardware issue, hypervisor issue, or SimpliVity issue I have so submit one ticket to SimpliVity. They handle any other ticket creation beyond that point. This means I have to spend less time balancing support tickets with multiple vendors.
I wish the storage controller VM that runs on each SimpliVity node took less memory from the available host resources.
I wish there was more of a formal knowledge transer after purchase and deployment. We had a good review with our sales rep about core operations of SimpliVity, but it would be nice to have a longer deployment and solution deep dive after deployment. On the plus side, any information you need is only a support ticket away and the engineers are very knowledgeable.
Our migration process to SimpliVity took longer than it should have because I was not adding our existing data stores to the new SimpliVity hosts. This forced all of our vMotions to run over the 1GB management interface instead of our 10GB storage interfaces.
All I can say is that their solution does what they say it will. I have been very happy with our experience using their solution for our agency's internal operations. I would recommend this solution to anyone, public sector or private.
I have never dealt with a SimpliVity engineer that wasn't completely knowledgeable about their product.
I wish there had been a longer and more in-depth knowledge transfer, but overall the deployment and migration went really well.
