Easy to install and manage. Backup recovery is easy especially file recovery. Data migration has been a little challenging, but most VMs work great. The support center has been very responsive and they do a thorough job. Engineers are not condescending and treat you as a professional.
Make sure you design you implementation for adequate growth.
Backup and recovery. Easy to manage in VMWare.
Somewhat challenging to add new units.
Quicker implementation schedules.
Buy a larger system to start out with. We found we wanted to put most of our data on the Simplivity systems.
The system works as advertised.
I have used the support and they are prompt and have always solved my problems. The only down side was the initial call. I had to wait 15 minutes before someone took my call.

SimpliVity worked very hard with us to satisfy our operational needs versus our budgetary constraints. Sales and engineering personnel were very responsive to our requests for additional information. Anytime we needed to speak to an engineer to get a better understanding of SimpliVity, they were quick to provide a technical resource. From an administration point of view, SimpliVity has freed up a lot of time in my day to focus on other projects. In one single stack of hardware, I can administer my VMs, manage my backups, and control all of my storage with ease. As a person that has to also work with our core networking and firewalls, it is nice to be able to spend less time worrying about my VM environment. We run a mixed environment of file servers, TIFF image repositories, SQL databases, Linux VMs, and internal app servers. All of our VMs are running better than ever and our DR strategy has been greatly simplified by utilizing off-site backups which we can restore at a secondary location in seconds. The built-in deduplication and compression in SimpliVity have allowed us to store all of our data on much less disk space than on our previous storage array. I hope to continue expanding the use of SimpliVity in our organization.
As a prospective customer you should approach SimpliVity with a healthy dose of skepticism; however, you need to take some of their claims about data efficiency at face value. I have had to tell many prospective customers that at the end of the day, their solution does what they claim it will even if it sounds too good to be true.
The single point of contact for support is indispensable for our agency. Regardless of whether it's a hardware issue, hypervisor issue, or SimpliVity issue I have so submit one ticket to SimpliVity. They handle any other ticket creation beyond that point. This means I have to spend less time balancing support tickets with multiple vendors.
I wish the storage controller VM that runs on each SimpliVity node took less memory from the available host resources.
I wish there was more of a formal knowledge transer after purchase and deployment. We had a good review with our sales rep about core operations of SimpliVity, but it would be nice to have a longer deployment and solution deep dive after deployment. On the plus side, any information you need is only a support ticket away and the engineers are very knowledgeable.
Our migration process to SimpliVity took longer than it should have because I was not adding our existing data stores to the new SimpliVity hosts. This forced all of our vMotions to run over the 1GB management interface instead of our 10GB storage interfaces.
All I can say is that their solution does what they say it will. I have been very happy with our experience using their solution for our agency's internal operations. I would recommend this solution to anyone, public sector or private.
I have never dealt with a SimpliVity engineer that wasn't completely knowledgeable about their product.
I wish there had been a longer and more in-depth knowledge transfer, but overall the deployment and migration went really well.

The process from the beginning to the end was great. The rack and stack, implementation and deployment were a smooth process. The hardware and software work as advertised and we started to immediately realize the benefits of the system.
If you are not looking at hyperconvergence infrastructure you are missing out. There is a definitive reason why the HCIS is growing rapidly and more vendors are coming to market year over year. Take a look at the major players and see why SimpliVity is the leader in hyperconvergence.
The things that I like most about SimpliVity is fast and reliable backups, ease of use,
When talking to others about OmniCube and OmniStack there is always confusion. I think it would benefit SimpliVity to call their HCIS product a single name followed by the hardware vendor. For example OmniCube on Dell, Omnicube on Lenevo, etc.
My only complaint at the time was that they should have an all-flash storage option in order to support extreme workload situations. Then around the time of VMworld 2016 they made an announcement that now offer an all-flash option.
If we had to start over the only thing that we would have done differently is buy more hardware/nodes in order to sunset our older infrastructure faster.
The service and support is outstanding. We have upgraded our OVC software once since deployment and the process was simple and fast. Support has never hesitated to answer a question and they are well versed in all types of technology.

With no previous standard for remote infrastructure, we suffered a lot of operational headaches due to the diversity of the technologies we had to support. With over 120 theme parks/attractions to run, we desperatley needed a new standard that would simplify our infrastructure. With SimpliVity we have successfully managed to consolidate the various tiers of infrastructure (storage, compute, backup, virtual) at our remote sites. The simplified management of the product and tight integration into VMWare vCenter has meant it has been easily adopted by our support staff. It has also removed the reliance on specialist IT staff in our department as our generalist staff are able to carry out daily tasks themselves. Integrated backups ar a major plus for this HCI product, not all vendors offer it and definitely not in such a simple way. The product has come a long way in the 18 months we have been running it in production and it just keeps getting better with every release.
My initial reaction when SimpliVity was first demo'ed to me was that it was too good to be true - we put the technology through its paces and it has not let us down yet. If comparing with other vendors do pay attention to the way that they do backups and remote replication.
The sheer simplicity of it all, from the ease of deployment to the daily operations, everything is very simple.
Backup reporting - this needs a bit more work but it is more than sufficient at the moment.
Not a lot, we meticulously looked a competitors when intially looking at SimpliVity and it was an easy choice at the time. If we were going through the process again now the outcome would be the same.
The Deployment Manager really does make deployment of units very easy

After seeing Simplivity's hyper-converged solution at VMworld, I was impressed with their approach to resolving many of the issues we were experiencing with our current technology. We had separate components that did not always work well together. Although we had a great backup/replication strategy in place, the management of those pieces was very time-consuming. Simplivity has given us the capability of not only improving performance, reducing our storage footprint, but more importantly improved our backup/replication capabilities and reduced management time required by our lean staff. The entire experience was excellent from the sales cycle, through project planning, through implementing the first set of Omnicubes for our corporate office and largest division. We have a two-year plan to upgrade our technology to Omnicubes for the rest of our enterprise. Technical support has proven to be very knowledgeable and responsive. We like having the "one throat to choke" aspect of their support model, as they handle any issues whether it be hardware or software. Again, that speaks to our desire to remain a lean I.T. department. Having utilized many other types of storage and de-duplication appliances in the past, Simplivity's approach to handling any de-dupe and compression at data ingestion is preferred and has allowed us to see a significant performance increase compared to our traditional stacks (compute, storage, backup, de-dupe). Simplivity is being used for our entire virtualization platform and includes all of our virtualized workloads (SQL, active directory, web servers, file servers, etc.hyperconverged) We did hyper-converged vendors, but kept coming back to Simplivity, and we are glad we did.
We had to educate ourselves on hyper-convergence, so that we could speak intelligently to the various players. One important consideration that you must learn from any vendor is what is required to provide redundancy and resilience in their systems. Some vendors require more hardware than others. Get the full pricing from any options before making a decision.
So far, the entire experience has been very good. From the initial sales engineering, through project planning, and implementation. Seeing some of the amazing results that they touted actually being true has been a great surprise. Their approach with the hardware and software provides the best data virtualization efficiency, bar none.
The only area of improvement I can see is getting better metrics of data storage efficiency at the individual virtual machine level. That would be very helpful in monitoring and understanding how well certain data types are being deduped and compressed. I have mentioned this to my sales engineer as well as support and I expect it will be available in future software releases.
Considering we spent significant time investigating and learning about the product, I cannot see anything that we would have done differently. There are always risks going with a newer technology and we were somewhat hesistant about things being real and what they said they were. With our initial implementation and results so far, I would have definitely not been as concerned as I was.
It does what they say it will do!
They have an extreme understanding of their product, and with United States based support, that is important given poor experiences we have had with other vendors.
They have the pre-planning and installation process down to a science. We knew exactly what was expected by us for the installation process to be completed successfully, and they took care of the rest.

The SimpliVity Platform is outstanding and customer support is superb! We're very pleased with our decision to purchase SimpliVity and we have it implemented in 5 different locations worldwide. Performance is fantastic, capabilities are wonderful, it is very easy to manage, and yes...everything SimpliVity says the platform can do is true!
Ask your AM to speak with current SimpliVity customers. You can gain a lot of information about how their environments are operating and give you further confidence in your decision to purchase SimpliVity.
This is a tough decision, but I think support is what I like the most. The platform operates so well and the capabilities are amazing. One of the things that are often overlooked when evaluating a new solution is their support. SimpliVity support is outstanding. They take care of EVERYTHING. Firmware updates, software updates, vSphere updates, questions about SimpliVity or vSphere, etc. - they're literally a one-stop-shop for any questions or assistance related to their product. Oh, and no "please hold while we redirect your call to someone who can help". The first person who answers can help you. Huge time savings, AMAZING value.
DRS capabilities are lacking a bit. I think that will probably be improved in the future.
Better notifications to customers when software updates become available.
I wish I could provide a more specific answer here, but our pre-sales discussions, environment sizing, implementation went very smoothly. We spent a lot of time speaking with SimpliVity AMs and implementation engineers to ensure we were getting exactly what we thought we were getting. For those interested in SimpliVity, request to speak with some of their current customers. Some will probably have implemented SimpliVity for the same reason you look to implement it and would probably (happily) tell you exactly how their environment is operating.
Everything that SimpliVity says its platform can do is absolutely true! Using SimpliVity creates a huge reduction in the management stack. Very easy to use and all upgrades/support on platform is 100% handled by them!
I can't speak highly enough about SimpliVity support. Support is OUTSTANDING!
I think within 4 hours, we had 2 OmniCubes deployed and 100% ready for us. This included racking, networking, and installation of vSphere. I think their deployment has even become more streamlined from when we first deployed 2 years ago. Overall, very happy with deployment and integration experience.

The implementation has been quite easy, and the expected goals have been reached fully. Deduplication, replication, easyness of management, astonishing restore times: all has been fullfilled.
Rethink your complicated backup strategy, since with Simplivity backup and restore is incredibly easy and fast
i am absolutely fanatic about deduplication, replication and restore times. We restore terabytes within few seconds.
if you still use a traditional backup solution , you will have to carefully reschedule your backups, taking into consideration that simplivity cannot handle many backups running in parallel without increasing the storage latency.
I am quite satisfied with the vendor approach
the system delivers the features it promises
Simplivity support is fast and reliable
Omnicube is perfectly integrated in vSphere

We have replaced a legacy infrastructure by the first 4 OmniCubes in 2015. We just have installed the second 4 Omnicubes cluster in an external Datacenter to provide better DRP in an active/active mode of operation.
Do not wait to move to hyper-convergence, storage, and backup management tasks become easier.
No more question to ask about disk size when creating new virtual machines. Backups are inherited from storage.
None, we had already a good experience of the product.
We would define a bigger budget to buy more nodes at the same time and create the DRP site from the beginning.
SimpliVity support is very good and have good reaction time
