Gartner’s view of the enterprise backup and recovery software solution market is focused on transformational technologies or approaches delivering on the future needs of end users. It is not focused on the market as it is today. Gartner defines the market as follows: Backup and recovery software solutions are designed to capture a point-in-time copy (backup) of an enterprise workload and write the data out to a secondary storage device for the purpose of recovering this data in case of loss. The solution can be offered as an appliance, as software only or as a vendor-managed service offering.

File analysis (FA) products analyze, index, search, track and report on file metadata and file content, enabling organizations to take action on files according to what was identified. FA provides detailed metadata and contextual information to enable better information governance and organizational efficiency for unstructured data management. FA is an emerging solution, made of disparate technologies, that assists organizations in understanding the ever-growing volume of unstructured data, including file shares,  email databases, enterprise file sync and share, records management, enterprise content management, Microsoft SharePoint and data archives.

IT Resilience Orchestration (ITRO) solutions are chiefly aimed at helping to improve the reliability, speed and granularity of workload recovery due to unplanned outages by automating disaster recovery (DR) processes while lowering costs of DR exercising and DR operations staff. Gartner’s ITRO definition focuses on tools that support a majority of these capabilities:
•	Automated failover, failback and availability/continuity management
•	Replication and orchestration
•	Discovery, dependency mapping and workload analysis
•	DR management and run book creation
•	Reporting and validation of recovery capability

CWPPs are workload-centric security products that protect server workloads in hybrid, multicloud data center environments (see Note 1). CWPPs provide consistent visibility and control for physical machines, virtual machines (VMs), containers and serverless workloads, regardless of location. CWPP offerings protect workloads using a combination of system integrity protection, application control, behavioral monitoring, intrusion prevention and optional anti-malware protection at runtime. CWPP offerings should also include scanning for workload risk proactively in the development pipeline.

Cloud Workload Protection Platforms

Gartner defines the disaster recovery as a service (DRaaS) market as a productized service offering in which the provider manages server image and production data replication to the cloud, disaster recovery run book creation, automated server recovery within the cloud, automated server failback from the cloud, and network element and functionality configuration, as needed. Source servers supported must include a combination of both virtual and physical. To be considered DRaaS versus other options that enable do-it-yourself recovery, all elements of the service must be included in the service offering contract between the provider and customer, and offer a standardized SLA for recovery.
