    Agile Platform with some cost challenges

    Overall Comment

    The overall experience was great. The communication to the CSM were constantly communicating on the effort. The overall plan laid out was well though out and the free training and onsite visits helped us get up and running a lot sooner than anticipated.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Start out small, create enterprise visibility and gather the metrics needed to situtate the solution as a broader enterprise solution.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The agility and the ability to be quickly up and running and go from concept to product in a mtter of days.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Primarily the licensing model, which prevents more usage of the platform.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    I think the vendor contradicted themselves at times when selling the solution in its capabilities. The recommendation is that the solution is suited to innovation and the agility layer Systems of Innovation/Differentiation. I think they got carried away and tried selling more than it was capable of causing some concern.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    I don't think we would do anything differently. The cost model is a named user model and that causes some concern of the overall ROI of the product. I would recommend the vendor to evaluate this model and look at an alternative licensing model as well.

    Mendix is Magnificent

    Overall Comment

    Very fluid and effective proccess for getting apps to market very quickly. You can build enterprise grade software using one developer. A platform easily understood by both IT and Business users, allowing Mendix to be a (very saught after) bridge between business goals and tech development. Their training materials are top notch and their support is very professional and swift. Could not ask for a better platform. Very excited about the future of Mendix!

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Go through the free online training. It is very well put together and makes a world of difference.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Ease of use and it seems to know what I want to do as I think of it. Very fluid.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Significant price jump between free and the following tier.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Have yet to encounter something they can do better. Wish they had a few more events in South africa?

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Nothing really, most hiccups were self inflicted and easily overcome by consulting the very helpful community.

    It seems the staff were too streched which makes them not too available to consult with

    It is better if one has an expert to work with while learning to be on your own

    Every member of staff seem eager to help

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Not references to consult and the staff seem too streched that they are not available for consult on demand

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Please write books and produce videos that can serve refernces

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Mendix is a good platform but in my opinion it is better taught through what I call the apprentice method rather classroom training Also there are not many references to consult

    good partnership and engagement. Weaknesses - not yet fully enterprise ready. Strategic roadmap lacking

    Ensure product capabilities are inherent in the solution and look at the "enterprise" capabilities you need to implement to ensure vendor eith has these, or they are well defined in their capability roadmap

    lack of enterprise capabilities

    Had more of an Enterprise mindset rather than SME market

    Organise business to engage with IT earlier on in process

    Great tool, Great company, build fast omni-channel solutions.

    Overall Comment

    Mendix is a great tool and an even better company. They truly care about making their customers successful. They are fast to adapt to market changes and fix issues/work on new features very quickly. It is a very fast tool that will force you to look at every internal process. its the only place that we have ever seen developers sitting around waiting for requirements. They have also helped us jump into areas that would have been scarier by abstracting the complexities of development.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Just start building!

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    always up to the market changes. They also have a lot of features and apps in the app store that abstract the complexity of development and allow the team to focus on creating solutions.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    it is hard to define exactly where it fits! it can do anything...should it is a whole different question that has been hard to pin down.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Nothing major.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Start small and then scale. Force a process change first and do agile the right way. Host in the cloud first.

    Good for a proof of concept but not a real application

    Has been a great platform for a POC. When it's time to scale we face significant challenges. Requires very specific platform skills in order to be effective. Is not flexible and is very restrictive. Does not integrate well with other platforms. Forces use of its own entity model which most of the time is not optimal.

    Understand the architecture and limitations before making a decision

    Can create a poc very fast

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Very restrictive

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Provide flexibility for designing your own entity model

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Do not use for anything else except a POC. Outsystems appears to be a better option for real solutions that can scale.

    Increased productivity, reduced time to market.

    The Mendix platform has allowed us to innovate and differentiate using software. Prior to the purchase, we were using traditional development tools and unable to prototype real software.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Your traditional team will push back.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    If we were to start over we would not have looked to introduce the platform to our traditional dev teams. After some starts and stops, we rolled the platform out to a group of technical business analysts who have since become our innovation team.

    Vendor had a global support team and a tremendously easy to use portal.

    Multi-Platform development (Web, Tablet and Phone) re-invented

    Very steep learning curve. Nice graphical interface for developers. Full Scrum support. No more coding, just think of your business needs and GO

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Do not hesitate, but try it. It is free and you can deploy in the cloud (called sandbox, to play in!). So users can test it themselves en give feedback.

    Speed and compatibility

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Hard to integrate graphical objects.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Still thinking about this.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    If I had the chance to start over, I would have implemented our first customer solution much earlier and do prototyping with the end-users.

    Full suite of tools for PC-web and tablet and phone developments. Could use more praphical support.

    Support has direct access to development team and are very quick to respond.

    Mendix aligns business and programmable functionality

    1. Community and culture 2. Easy of use for constructing and deploying functional logic 3. The solution caters for hardcore refactoring thereby allowing the business to pivot easily on the same product

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Mendix is a fantastic business development tool. It allows business's rapidly to create secure and functional products and release them is very short iterations. The application is flexible enough to allow development teams to pivot, refector and re-deploy effortlessly. Iterations are literally daily in length.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The culture of the organisation and the focus on employering business through innovation.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    licence fees for startups or SME'sd

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Focus on creating intergration stability to allow Mendix to interact with the greater enterprise easier.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    1. Start with Mendix earlier 2. Not target systems that require deep data relationships

    The application is portable to mobile web and app. The application environment itself can handle vast amounts of users and extr extremely merely large datasets.

    Service is relatively high. Don't know of a case that an SLA was broken.

    Development became very easy and bottleneck transferred to the test team.

    Overall Comment

    The vendor was very helpful and the product showed a very fast evolution pace that allowed us to fix issues rapidly.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Make sure automated test cases are written as we go so we can assure a good coverage considering development happens too fast and it is very hard to automate with other commercial tools that do not offer the same speed in development.

    Support is always prompt. Vendor has always shown to be very supportive and accommodating to provide us with everything required.
