    Creating whitelists can be time consuming but worth it for risk compliance.

    Start with a open whitelist before you start blacklisting applications/processes.

    Spend time in a real world pilot.

    Microsoft was very helpful in answering some of our key questions regarding enterprise security and was open to share experience with DoD partners. Cost was a key consideration and differentiator.

    Understand how Bitlock intergrates with your end user support model.

    Low cost and complexity. Easy deployment.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Added more management solutions -- possibly integrating with more 3rd party tools.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Depoly Bitlocker sooner

    Could use some additional functionality to support multiple users and 3rd party tools.

    Never thought I would promote Microsoft for security...

    Bitlocker has been a solid performer. Haven't really noted any downside issues with the platform once we got it deployed in the manner wanted.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Embedded encryption solutions work better than third-party add-on. From our experience. As end mobile devices for us are primarily windows based laptops, Bitlocker was a better performer and cost effective.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    In-house expertise with the Microsoft platforms made implementation really easy.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Needs to be more platform agnostic.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Expand coverage to more OS platforms.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    More than likely nothing.

    Some hardware implementation issues with BIOS on existing hardware/images

    Coordinate with hardware vendor up front in test plans

    It is mostly transparent to the end-user.

    Technical staff require more training than is advertised.

    Everything is easy when things go right. When they go wrong, there is a lot of finger pointing.

    More testing, testing, testing
