    Bit of a learning curve, but once you get it, it can be a powerful tool

    Vendor was very helpful and responsive in getting us going and even invited us to a free training event at a local hotel.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Make sure you have the ability to dedicate time and resources to setting up this product, followed by sufficient training. I'd also make sure there's a large enough use-case for it, else it will become one of those tools that sits idle for too long.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Provided insight into the network and applications that we would have never known about with any other standard tool. Packet-level insight can be very helpful, but also complicated to understand.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    The tool is fairly complex to learn - this is less of a disparagement on the product than it is on the complexity of networking. If there was a way to make it a little easier ot learn or implement, that would have been great.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    I wishthe price was lower or at least scaled better for small/medium-sized businesses.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Wouldn't do anything differently.

    Great Tool For Network And Application Performance Management

    Overall Comment

    Extrahop proved to us in a Proof of Concept that they were able to quickly solve some of the operational problems we experienced with some of our business critical applications. Based on this outcome the product was bought and fully operational in our environment. We are now able to analyse our IT infrastructure in a short period of time and improve there where necessary.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Define use-cases, based on your day-to-day operations, for analysis, so you can prove the value of the product for your organisation

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    It is showing exactly what is happening in your IT infrastructure, without the installation of agents on your IT components.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    There are so many ways to troubleshoot, it is difficult to choose the right approach in order to get the information you need.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Pay more attention to training

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Invest more in training, before starting to use the product.

    Extrahop is the one stop shop for answers.

    Overall Comment

    Implementation was short and sweet, we were up and running. The built-in dashboards provided insight that very day. Only to get better once we outlined our needs allowing the Sales Engineer to do his magic.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Extrahop provides insane visibility. Include everyone from all departments, the knowledge of this tool should not be kept a secret.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Ease of use, detailed information at all Layers, and decreased time when resolving issues.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    ..Specs to run the EXA appliance.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    The vendor has been nothing less than perfect, providing additional support and answering questions whenever they are asked. I would change nothing.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Nothing, prior to implementation we knew our goals.. get visibility, include everyone, and start answering questions.

    Not your father's NPM, ExtraHop does so much more

    ExtraHop was a late entry into our evaluations of a Network Performance Monitoring Tool. The product provided extra information not seen on competitors that we tested. The staff was very helpful, Tim Demarco bent over backwards to demonstrate the tools usefulness to our entire staff. Brian Shepard setup the system and placed dashboards that provided much insight into what we have on our network. The system was available and providing very useful information with just a few hours.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Look at the other areas that ExtraHop provides. Malware detection was a big value add for our organisation. None of the other vendors offered something like that so easily.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Their pre-built dashboards are amazing. Customization is available, but many items we will use are already created through the company or by other customers.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    If you need to get to a packet capture, it isn't very elegant to get it. Their stance is that all the information you need is available in the interface, but having access to the packets is a good thing.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    The dashboards are amazing, but there could be an improvement in some of the drills down information. I would like to be able to click on a dashboard and get the specific information I would expect to see, instead this takes a little digging.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    We selected our POCs based off the magic quadrant. Because ExtraHop is a little different, they were not included in that industry. Luckily, we ran across them at a trade show.

    So far we have been receiving support directly from the sales team, they have been great. Brian Shepard has been very helpful.

    Great product to provide insight to complex IT interactions.

    The product gives exceptional visibility into the interactions and dependencies of applications, database servers. It is a key aid in troubleshooting as it helps narrow down the potential areas which are causing the problems. The sales engineer was extremely helpful and the sales team ensured a successful implementation. The PoC sold the product.

    Bring in proof of concept.

    Ease of implementation.

    It is fairly complex and requires experience to master it.

    Let's you see how your IT environment is working

    If you ever have been caught in the discussion with a vendor that "the error is on your side", but you know that's not the case? I have, several times... ExtraHop helped us solve many of these issues, straight out of the box with the built-in widgets, how? I can share an example with you, we had for a big project around 20 consultants that was working from our main office against on-premises servers (fully clustered and load balanced) and applications but they all had difficulties connecting to the systems, all Microsoft systems, so they were using Remote Desktop, SQL Manager, web browsers and some self-developed tools. At first they didn't report this to the IT support, our knowledge about this came from our employed test users that got strange certificate errors when testing, so after som investigation we did find out that the consultants were connecting using IP-addresses, not FQDN and furthermore they did their development and coding with IP's instead of FQDN and on top they didn't use the "cluster IP" they used different cluster members IP's. The only help we got from the consultants was that "this has never happened in any other customers environment" (ever heard that before?), so we had to try to problem solve this without any help from them. But that was no problem, just open up the projects DB/IIS/Network performance dashboard and we could see that we didn't have any performance issues, what caught my eye was the built-in widget for DNS errors, and will, all clients computers was failing to resolve DNS requests, we could see that the consultants computers tried to get to their own DNS at their own office. That didn't work for a cause, but we couldn't get them to accept this and make necessary changes until we had a written report from ExtraHop.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Listen to your Sales Engineer, they know what they are doing. The licenses are a bit complicated so go through this many times before you decide the version and features.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Our sales engineer, Hai-Shen Yang, as is always there when I need some help and his knowledge in infrastructure is amazing. He has help us resolved some infrastructure problems just by looking at the number presented in the built-in widgets. It is so easy to print a diagram showing the management where the errors are, they can "see" the time a DB insert procedure takes, and the response time for a drop-down menu on a website.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Steep learning curve, takes time to get on top of everything, but then, if you are stuck, our sells engineer is always there to help.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Simpler licensing, even our domestic ExtraHop partner didn't get this right without a discussion with ExtraHop.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Examined the licensing more carefully, before I presented the budget.

    ExtraHop has enormous potential but the high learning curve makes it difficult to fully utilise the product.

    Our engineer, Hai-Shen Yang, is always there when I need some help. No matter if it is with ExtraHop or infrastructure, always gets a proposed solution or in what direction we should continue to troubleshoot.

    Overall quick/easy and working from day one, but we did miss some feature due to domestic ExtraHop partner errors.

    Installation and setup were brain dead simple. Support from the vendor has been excellent - never a long wait and our reps have been very responsive.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    The initial dashboards are inviting, but only tell part of the picture. Have your more senior technical staff work with the system to deliver better business insight - it pays off.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    It's very easy to get started with. People are impressed from the start.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    The metrics can be daunting - you will need some highly technical IT generalists (people who understand systems across all OSI layers) to deliver any custom value out of the product. It can be done, just realize you'll want to leverage the more technical staff.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    More local user groups.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Expose more of engineering and operations to the product sooner after initial adoption. Continue training staff - the amount of data the system provides is almost overwhelming - we need to keep learning.

    Support is responsive and personal. A great relief in comparison to the big vendors.

    ExtraHop came in and helped up set up our Citrix monitoring as well as bootstrapping the use of the system in our environment.

    ExtraHop has been great at providing additional insights into our environment in looking at network and application performance as well as security events. Their solution has been easy to implement in that it's watching wire data and doesn't involve adding agents to servers or running SNMP, WMI etc queries against our systems. In addition, ExtraHop has been great in assisting with our implementation and have been active in responding to any customization required to help us best configure the platform to work in our complex environment.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Ability to customize it to work in our environment. The active community sharing bundles is also a nice benefit.

    Vendor setup weekly online meetings after deployment to make sure everything was going well and answer any questions we might have.

    Great tool to have around

    Our Sales Engineer, Rick Richards, has been extremely helpful in coming up with dashboards to alert us to potential problems. With his help, we were able to identify that one of our two servers in the load balancer was doing all the work. We have gotten deeper insight into our network and database activities, along with its throughput and latency.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Extrahop works on the OSI model. Get your team to review and be familiar the OSI model, it makes life in this appliance easier. In addition, there are a lot of way to walk thru the interface. it is still a bit confusing to me.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    I like that I don't have to rely on our network team to tell me if there is a network issue or not.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    that it can't track fiber traffic. Some of our servers are connected to our san via fiber so we can't see the latency or throughput.

    ExtraHop consultants were extremely proficient with the product and provided guidance for the design, implementation, use case scenarios, and hands-on training. The out-of-the-box bundles provided us a head start and insights into our tier one application. ExtraHop Customer Support is extremely helpful whenever we have an issue or if we just have a simple question related to the product.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    The implementation team should know their infrastructure and applications. They should push the consultants to provide an automated mechanism to creating device groups and application containers during the initial implementation.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    There are so many metrics available when you first exposed to the product it can be overwhelming.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    The documentation is okay, but we would like to see more detail on the metrics. Our application support and development teams have numerous questions once they start using the product.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    If we could start the project all over, we would be better prepared with the appropriate application and infrastructure subject matter experts when the ExtraHop consultant came on-site. In addition, we would have provided additional resources to the implementation team.
