    Couchbase and Analytics.

    Overall Comment

    Couchbase started with a minimal ability to integrate into our analytics platform. This caused major issues down the road.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Compare with raw facts; test for yourselves; challenge internal decisions.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Easy to administer and simple to set up.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Initial lack of custom querying and aggregations.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Look for interoperability and native support to integrate with known analytics solutions. Integrations should be out of the box and not with the help of professional services.

    Great scalability. Easy to deploy. Need improvements in documentation and maturity.

    Couchbase is putting a lot of effort to reach customer satisfaction.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Choose noSQL only if there is a real noSQL need. Not to replace traditional RDBMS.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    High scalability.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Maximum autofail-over is set to 1 node, to prevent cascading failures. Even in a cluster of 1000 nodes, a failure of 2 nodes while temporary lead to 2/1000 data unavailability. Couchbase Support team blindly defend this issue, presenting it as a feature. From customer perspective, we consider this as a big lack of QoS, and easily fixable by Couchbase.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Couchbase Professional services were not speaking french, it use to be a major issue for traditional french customers. This issue is being assessed by Couchbase, which is hiring locally technical architects.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Need continuous support of Couchbase professional services on site.

    PS team is highly available and paying attention to customer needs. Technology support is fast and accurate.

    Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

    This is basically working. 30 min to install an entire Couchbase cluster from business requirement to the availability for the end users, with no specific skills required. To be compared with 2/3 working days for an Oracle 10-years expert to install Oracle cluster.

    Bullet-proof, fast and easy to deploy with a compelling features roadmap.

    Couchbase the product was simple to deploy and very robust despite weaknesses in our compute environment. Couchbase the organization were passionate, flexible and committed partners who went that extra mile to make sure we were successful.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Get consultancy to help put it in and use it - expensive but ultimately saved time and effort.

    Easy to live with and awesome reliability and speed.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Lack of features early in the roadmap.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Better security features earlier on in the product roadmap.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Making sure it was on suitably sized and configured servers. This is key to allowing the platform to perform as expected. We would also have sought more consultancy in the early days to make sure that data model was a good match.

    Catching up fast with vendors who have less elegant but more market mature solutions.

    Setup and management was simple. Appliction development was easy. It had nearly all the functionality we could want with a roadmap that filled in the gaps.

    Fast performing No-SQL

    Overall Comment

    Couchbase high performance and strong replication ability across multi-datancentre really sealed the deal. We required a database that could sustain a high number of writes and reads at the same, while replicating the data across other data-centres without missing a beat.
