We had a real problem with spam, email based malware and newsletter or grey spam. We were being to look elsewhere by our existing vendor and I had an existing Barracuda backup in place. I had heard very good things in the past abaout the spam firewall. I found the support and implementation assistance first class and it dropped our spam and malware issues over night.

This implementation was fairly straightforward. Performance is fine, with some internal tweaking of parameters. Vendor was cooperative. Product and implementation were pretty much as advertised.

This vendor has been very responsive to our needs as the world has changed. They have also been very accommodating as we've switched out appliances over the years.

Barracuda Spam Firewall just barely meets expectations about what email hygeine systems should do. It effectively blocks the 'low hanging fruit' of malicious emails with sender auth checks (SPF), signature based content filtering and AV. It is not effective at blocking 'advanced email threats' such as imposter emails and new malware. Configuration of the system is very limited, complex email processing is not available.

The Barracuda Spam Firewall has been a rock solid product and has done an excellent job of reducing spam and viruses entering our network. Being in the healthcare arena it has also been a plus that the unit will encrypt outbound email that it detects as containing HIPAA information based on the rules we have set.

The Spam filter works very well for the cost. Not the best product we have used but the best product for the money and low matintence.

Service works well and is easy to manage. Number of false positives very low and overall spam filtering is very effective. One incident on Barracuda's end which resulted in a few hours of impacted service but all mail was spooled and sent out once service was restored.

The initial setting up for whitelist items is somewhat troublesome, but after having it in operation for 6 months, things are pretty smooth. End users rarely have legitimate, important emails being blocked, and rarely have illegitimate spam emails being sent to their inbox. I especially enjoy the fact that you can set up end users to be able to view their quarantine and release their own emails, as this could sometimes be ALL you do in a day in IT. Overall, I'd say they offer a great product at a reasonable price.
