    Implementation was well planned out but challenging

    Implementation for a company of our size was complex. Many different policies for different user populations. Migrated slowly uses from old platform to new platform.

    Migrate slowly

    Flexibility to write complex policies

    Rather expensive

    Not minimize the impact it would have to our environment

    Bluecoat SE has been very good during the implementation. Good follow up and made sure everything is properly implemented

    Review the supported cipher list when choosing SSL appliance Filter unwanted traffic to be decrypted through this appliance

    Blue Coat is very responsive and provides good value.

    Design for the right scale of your deployment. Make sure you have enough proxies to support your outbound traffic.

    Breadth of coverage.

    Better tie-in and management of other products they've acquired.

    Great product but it will cost you.

    Excellent technical capabilities, vendor very helpful in implementation, but very expensive due to the size of our enterprise -- this required a scaled-back deployment.

    Conduct extensive traffic analysis before making a purchase.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    Actual functionality is excellent -- great control against web-borne threats.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Cost.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    I wish they had understood our throughput requirements.

    Understand the cost structure and determine ways to minimize that.

    Implementation was slow and rocky, but an amazing product once tuned.

    Vendor support from an engineer standpoint was lacking. Deployment took longer than expected, but overall very happy.

    Be ready to spend 6 to 12 weeks tuning.

    Additional prep work and technical discussion before deployment.

    Strong technology platform, steep learning curve.

    General implementation was well received. There were some issues with configuration causing network issues on other supported systems, but this is likely attributed to the skill of the engineers with the product. There is a learning curve.

    Training, training, and training.

    Increased stability of environment and radical reduction in environment risk.

    Better up front planning before execution.

    Policy Management for Bluecoat SG

    Overall Comment

    The product has been rock solid and is serving up over 3 TB of secured content per gateway per week.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    The product is rock solid, but maintenance expenses can be higher than other product vendors. Addon software/features can cause the platforms to run hot, so pay attention to the vendors' sizing recommendations.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The stability and speed. The appliances are well engineered and run very well.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Lack of RIB/ILO management connection and SSD support.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    The support is good, but can always be better.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Work with the client teams more up front to understand the types of Internet access requirements are needed so the policies can be structured more logically and easily. Once the logic is set, it is difficult to make changes to the running system without risk.

    Product capabilities - overall comment

    We are beginning to leverage more and more features of the platforms, especially the AD integration, which has been invaluable for our footprint. The capability to support multiple authentication methods simultaneously is a great asset. Surprisingly, caching content is still of value - which means we are able to return 10-20% of the ISP bandwidth back to the business - a huge cost savings given size of our footprint.

    Quality of the hardware was excellent. The equipment arrived at each data center without any missing parts and damage. We were able to proceed with installation without any delays.

    The implementation is not complete, however the complexity and effort required to install and configure is extremely high.

    Understand your current environment completely prior to beginning the deployment.

    The ability to extend management to the corporate mobile devices.

    The effort required to maintain the configuration is extremely high.

    Provide better deployment strategies for unauthenticated users.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Construct an outcomes based approach taking the impact on the end user community as well as the dependencies on cross functional groups.

    We are unsure of the capabilities as the deployment is not yet complete. This has been a challenging project.
