The product is very flexible and configurable. The vendor was very responsive and provided great input and assistance in implementing and training.

Websense (Forcepoint) cloud gateway protection services have provided valuable end system security in the area of web filtering, and download protection. The key value was that the end systems are now protected while both on and off the internal corporate network, and any and all web traffic is visible via the Websense cloud portal. This has added valuable insight to high-risk browsing and C&C attempts coming from the corporate managed end systems.
Identify low risk, high priority web applications, even those hosted on premise and accessible only internally via a browser, and proactively whitelist those sites.
It provided protection and visibility for the end systems on all public internet access, regardless of being on the corporate network or a public network.
A major Websense proxy issue could prohibit all internet browsing access to all end systems, except for specific whitelisted sites.
The vendor could proactively provide alerts to customers on issues within their cloud proxy systems and possible effects on operations. Websense provides a status portal, but proactive alerting would be a value add.
We would have reviewed the ability to white list core business critical websites earlier in the implementation process.

The product has delivered what was promised. The security policy deployment and reputational filtering have been outstanding. Additionally, the integration pieces between the DLP and ESG are promising.
Have a solid process in place to respond to end user requests to open blocked sites. Also, deploying this along with another Internet Gateway for unfiltered user traffic off of the corporate network makes it easier for the users to adopt blocking uncategorized sites.
Easy and quick deployment. Great customer services from our account representatives.
Responding to DLP incidents takes a few clicks from within the data incident report.
Provide additional DLP tuning capability options with the incident button. Also, let the dashboard download the threat data parameters. Today, the download from the threat dashboard only includes the basic pieces.
Initially we based our licensing model on employee headcount. We deployed with WCCP, which meant additional licensing for endpoints beyond the user base.
My account representatives are great. If we can't get answers out of the help desk, we go to them to help escalate.

We have run into challenges over the years with the product and its capabilities. Vendor support was not the best. Since being acquired and rebranded by Raytheon that experience and product roadmap seems to be improving.

spend more time with the business and doing business architecture.

I have used and seen many other Web Content Filters/Proxies and Websense has been disappointing in it's features and functions. Many things I consider core functionality of a Proxy solution are not present.
Their support has gone above and beyond.
We would evaluate different vendors and not make a decision without considering the alternatives.

We have been a Websense customer for over 15 years. Though they have some challenges with the technology, the solution is good.
Talk to many customers for their experience in implementation.
It has been the security layer that has saved us many times.

Websense has a long-standing reputation as a quality product that is in jeopardy as their hybrid version lacks critical features, also its support quality has declined.
Get customer references; particularly for support. Support is not what it used to be for websense.
It does not offer good implementation expertise.
Have better implementation expertise and enable DLP features in the cloud without requiring their DLP agent on the desktop.
Choose a different product of Websense and not use their hybrid version. We had got the hybrid version because of the consolidated console and features. Versioning is complex and DLP only works if you add their agent (yes, another agent) to your endpoint.
