Zscaler Web Security

Low cost and rapidly deployed BOM replacement for on-premises web gateway

Successfull deployment across global sites, using a mix of GRE and IPSEC tunneling from Cisco edge network equipment, required pre-work to build specific version/configuration templates. Vendor provided impressive techincal resources (up to and including CCIE level vendor staff and co-work with Cisco TAC) while working through issues with these templates. Vendor's 2016 service enhancements included a re-worked VPN stack that greatly simplified configuration templates. Good success with the TAM program. Vendor's dedicated support managers have good technical backgrounds and access to internal resources. Much more than only a PM. Excellent vendor partnership, including detailed QBRs, Office of the CISO, CAG and other programs to extract additional value from the service, improve the service, and guide the evolution of the service.

Test before deploy

The zscaler product has not been completely tested. The product team has apparently been working under the assumption that zscaler is the only product that runs in an environment. There is extreme lack of integration testing. There is an extreme lack of clarity on how the technology itself interacts with all interfacing technologies.

Easy implementation, clear communication of requirements and challenges w/certain options

Implementation of the solution was easy. Outstanding Deployment team. Capabilities and ease was wonderful. Some issues with using IPSec versus GRE. Other that, solution was just as described. Robust support organization and procedures.

Zscaler Web Security

Need to enhance reporting abilities, but good value from a cost/benefit perspective.

They're URL classification can be out of date and slower to recognize emerging threats than would be ideal, though this is an admittedly very difficult job. Also their reporting seems to be unnecessarily complicated in my experience. Perhaps this is on purpose to impose an overall learning curve for users of the tool, but when it comes to simple getting some basic reporting on browsing history for specific users I don't see why it has to be as difficult to figure out as it is. Otherwise the product is working out very well.

Zscaler Web Security

Very good solution with a few warts that they are fixing over time.

Overall we have been very happy with the filtering services provided. Data analytics and reporting are sub-par but improving. Very few issues with improperly blocked sites or services, which was a big improvement over our existing BlueCoat solution. For companies that want to do a lot of very granular controls, the interface is not ideal and you'll find yourself spending a lot of time clicking around to find some things.

Zscaler Web Security

Good product, good value

Overall the solution has worked well, but like any complex technology - there are some hurdles to overcome. Functionality-wise the product is excellent and we have been very pleased with stability and overall value. The cloud proposition was the real selling factor.

Zscaler implementation was easy and yielded great value in improving security

Easy implementation, training included

Zscaler Web Security

Good product, but don't underestimate the work of maintaining a white list.

Zscaler is a mainstream product in a still developing area - there are some bumps occasionally, but by and large the experience has been positive. The promise of the cloud for scaling and containing costs has been realized. These sorts of products that restrict what people can do - visibly - are going to be a lightning rod for user criticism.

Zscaler Web Security

Secured web content filtering

deployment worked well...ease of deployment slightly complicated

Zscaler Web Security

Mature, customizable cloud based solution.

Product works very well, very few obstacles in deployment. Hosted PAC files makes things easy. IPSEC tunnels supported for traffic routing.
