    Zscaler - use of ABA in a software defined network

    Overall Comment

    Overall experience with the Vendor was positive. They worked with us, providing documentation and results/metrics on the risk that we were mitigating with their solution.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    You need to understand the difference between Zscaler's advanced threat detection and the standard threat detection. In our case, we determined that the standard threat detection was 'good enough' for our risk profile. The advanced solution created many false positives and did not add the required amount of value for our investment.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    The absolute ease of deployment. Since we already have Zscaler deployed throughout the enterprise, it is really as simple as hitting a switch within the admin console.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Value-add of the advanced solution compared to the standard offering.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Provided more detailed explanation between the different product offerings. Additionally, need to provide more detailed metrics on the threats that ABA was actively mitigating. These metrics should have included threat intelligence, behavior analysis, etc.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Security should have been further ahead of this need. The push for Zscaler's Advanced Behavior Analysis was driven by the business pushing for SDWAN and direct internet access. This required security to adapt new technologies as our network visibility was going way at the datacenter perimeters.

    Good functionality, good customer support. Some functionality has to grow and be developed further to fully cover our needs

    Join the customer group and make sure we as customers help the company to develop the necessary functionality

    The focus on the specific capabilities they deliver and the cooperation with the companies that deliver the adjacent capabilities

    Deliver through service provider

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Deliver to the customer directly, instead of through a service provider

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    The process was good, taking out the service provider would have made the process smoother

    Internet traffic visibility: why you need it.

    The product provided a lot of simplicity to something that has been traditionally difficult for us to manage - web proxy.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Test test test - need to think of all the things that use the internet and how and test.

    Reporting.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Reporting.

    Clearer decision roadmap on why to make certain deployment choices.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Roll out faster -- provide less waffling internally.

    Technology works as created and described.

    Overall Comment

    Several outages caused by poor change management practices caused a strong sense of unease within our enterprise. Zscaler was quick to make changes to their processes and connected to the value in our concerns. This is part of the risk of working with a relatively young Vendor.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Align policy and drive standards across businesses as much as possible prior to implementation.

    What do you like most about the product or service?

    flexibility with cloud and on-perm.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Young product/business growing pains.

    provide more robust implementation services.

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Consult with a 3rd party to work through implementation. Zscaler does not offer a service to help work through policy conversation and best efforts for transition.

    Vendor's service breadth is expanding, but troubles loom.

    Overall Comment

    Service is solid and works very well. Was extremely price-competitive initially, but has become less so as time goes on. New advanced security features tend to be only available with a heavy cost lift, and are typically not well introduced to customers. Users have reported issues with service availability, or misclassification of websites. The mobile app was poorly incepted and did not work well when use was attempted at the end of 2015. We are looking to use an updated version of the mobile and desktop ZApp, and hope for better results. Plan to stay with vendor due to increasing breadth of offerings, but they need better training and technical resources if they plan on usurping the territory of other network perimeter protection vendors. Intense sales focus on locking in more revenues due to company's positioning in anticipation of IPO has caused some fracturing of relationships with customers due to the insistence that customer purchases within vendor's sales quota periods, rather than trying to meet customer needs.

    What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

    Demand transparent pricing schedules for existing and roadmap items, and ask for new features to be proved out before deployment.

    Solidity of service, with remarkably of outages or service failures.

    What do you dislike most about the product?

    Built-in audit reporting features are poor.

    What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

    Not pressure a customer for payments to match the sales team's quarterly goals. Leave the customer out of it!

    If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

    Pressure vendor to expand its training for customer staff, and to ensure that periodic check-ins are occurring. Only started happening once we paid for a TAM to manage the account.
