Product(s): Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine, SecurityCenter CV

Best vulnerability management for the price

    Overall Comment

The tool itself is quite powerful, including an internal ticket systema and reporting making management and vulnerability handling a lot easier, giving you the ability to asign responsibilities and show the results over time of the different mitigation policies applied by our company. Easy to use dashboards give the users the ability to quickly glance at the status of the different issues, including open tickets, old and new incidents and overtime baselines.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

Make sure this is the right tool for your organization, if all you need is a centralized tool for your Nessus scanners Tenable has a new piece of soft called Nessus Manager.

What do you like most about the product or service?

The included ticketing system and the ability to segregate users and give them their own dashboards and portals.

What do you dislike most about the product?

Lack of detailed information regarding certain configuration parameters like reporting.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

Test the software more and see what is oriented torwards, research more about the passive scanners and reporting capabilities.

Service & support - overall comment

As any major company the support is based on tickets, but usually you can find the answers in the forums, still, not a bad experience.

    Product(s): SecurityCenter CV

Easy to work with, great support.

    Overall Comment

Great product. We started out with the full log correlation engine but found we were under licensed for IP addresses since hosts with multiple addresses (internal/external) can chew up multiple licenses. Ended up scaling back to just the active scanner and a different licensing model. Tenable worked with us to convert our licensing at a reduced cost.

What do you like most about the product or service?

    Ease of use.

What do you dislike most about the product?

    Licensing model.

Service & support - overall comment

    I've always had good service.

    Product(s): SecurityCenter CV

Disappointed in SecurityCenter - stick to Nessus.

    Overall Comment

As a Nessus user for over eight years, I expected SecurityCenter to be a bigger step up. The SecurityCenter console and query features are very mechanical and could easily be performed using a scripting language. The software itself has been a challenge, as upgrades to the environment resulted in changes to our scanning policy. When we upgraded to 5.1, the scanner was expecting the settings for "safe scanning" to be "yes" or "no", not the "true" or "false" it was in the previous version. The migration scripts did not address this, and as a result we lost the confidence of our teams by scanning without safe settings. For a subsequent upgrade, we were provided incorrect instructions by a local SE.

Product(s): Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine

Implementation was seamless and product is feature-rich; great visibility.

    Overall Comment

Good experience from sales to implementation to maintenance. Customer service is responsive and the product has a wide breadth of features that extend the value.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

Do your research and come up with a strong list of POC vendors. If you are having trouble during the sales/POC process, don't expect it to get better as you move through the product lifecycle.

What do you like most about the product or service?

The visibility into our network vulnerabilities and the depth of the feature offering from great reporting to generating several scan outputs to drilling down to IP level issues.

What do you dislike most about the product?

The discrepancies sometimes seen between MS SCCM and Nessus.

What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

Work more diligently to resolve the discrepancies seen between Microsoft SCCM and Nessus.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

I don't have any at this time.

Service & support - overall comment

Could improve in resolving some conflicts.

Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

Easy to deploy, seamless process and intuitive UI to help with setup.

Product(s): SecurityCenter CV, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine

Powerful tool that is constantly being improved upon.

    Overall Comment

Tenable Nessus and Security Center provide comprehensive centralized vulnerability scanning, reporting, and mitigation tracking that we needed. Pricing was fair and the strength of the product has been evident throughout implementation and rollout.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

The support from Tenable is great! Don't hesitate to call them if you encounter difficulties as it will save you time.

What do you like most about the product or service?

Support is top notch, the product is comprehensive when it comes to scanning, mitigation recommendations, and reporting.

What do you dislike most about the product?

Training documentation and online plugin searching which is not all inclusive of all plugins. I would also appreciate a better scanner version upgrade as the stand alone scanner allows you to upgrade from the console while the Security Center managed scanner does not.

What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

I would appreciate better online training and more thorough documentation.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

Procure essential hardware prior to purchase as well as map out scan zones and segmented network scanning beforehand. It has worked out as a measured rollout but would it would have been better to have a more thought out implementation plan.

    Product capabilities - overall comment

    It does what it say.

Service & support - overall comment

Technical support was fantastic and the company has been very responsive to questions.

Product(s): Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine

    Useful, with some scaling issues.

    Overall Comment

Rollout of the ACAS Security Centers was initially straightforward and the Security Centers work well independently of each other. Unfortunately, the vast amount of data being consolidated is making roll-up of the data to a single, central, Security Center difficult, highly impossible, frustrating out desire to have a single place to view vulnerability data for our highly decentralized and geographically dispersed network.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

Ensure the systems rollup to a central Security Center during implementation.

Product(s): Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine

Features seem to grow in number with our need.

    Overall Comment

Have been using the Nessus product to perform pre-emptive assessments of our environment for many years and have added additional functionality to our contract this year. Very comfortable with the direction it has taken and have enjoyed the benefits of a strong community of users and relaxed communication with Tenable. As our end user gain more and more control and management over their own network folders and ability to share information, the product is able to help us make sure that things that shouldn't be shared aren't.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

The product is quite easy to install and use, but requires a fair amount of training to really make "sing." Also, it is very easy to wreak havoc on a network if one is not careful, and the product is not properly configured.

What do you like most about the product or service?

The depth of detail and recommendations provided are strong and can provide strong justifications for action/change, though they may also be intimidating.

What do you dislike most about the product?

The reports are very dense, highly detailed, and could be misused to present a "sky is falling" scenario that doesn't really exist. It's key that any reports are presented with the proper context for the organization and the scenario.

What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

Perhaps it's my lack of experience, but it might be nice if executive reports could be generated more easily.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

Looking back, I believe we would increase the number of folks specified to run the product and their training.

Service & support - overall comment

Our questions have been answered and new features are announced in a timely fashion.

Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

Product had no impact on end devices. Its use limited to specific staff.

Product(s): Nessus Vulnerability Scanner, Passive Vulnerability Scanner, Log Correlation Engine

Great product that does what it's supposed to!

    Overall Comment

great at what it does - would like to be able to share scan results among analysts. Other advanced products offered do provide this but at a much greater cost, especially when all that is desired is access to results.

What one piece of advice would you give other prospective customers?

This is a great, industry accepted and auditor tested tool and should be part of any organizations toolset.

What do you like most about the product or service?

simple and easy to implement and perform scans resulting in useful data.

What do you dislike most about the product?

poor reporting and sharing of scanning data.

What one thing do you wish the vendor did differently?

Provide clear product roadmaps for varying use cases.

If you could start over, what would your organization do differently?

Consider implementing security center and staffing instead of an SMS solution

    Product capabilities - overall comment

a lot of data to look through - really would like risk-based filtering other than just cave threat levels.

Service & support - overall comment

    easy and quick response.

Integration & Deployment - Overall comment

self-implemented and managed by internal staff.
