Blackboard was hands-on during our implementation process, and ensured we had a smooth roll-out. While there some issues with the administrative side of the interface, the end-user experience has been enhanced with the new version. Collaborate Ultra takes video-conferencing to another level, and its seamless integration into the Bb LMS, as well as being a stand-alone product made adoption easy.
Develop a business case for the implementation and get executive buy-in, before proceeding. The business case must be strong enough and not reactive to minor shifts in changing methodology.
Ease of use. Requires minimal set up for end user to create a session.
The administration is still Java-based.
Provide end-user documentation for different types of users.
We would be more specific in ensuring recorded sessions from the previous version were retrievable.

Implementation of Collaborate within the Blackboard Learn environment went well, but the virtual classroom implementation for use outside of Blackboard Learn did not result in full implementation. This seemed to STEM from the consultant's limited knowledge of the use of Collaborate outside the Learn environment.
Make sure you have a full understanding of how you wish to use the product within Blackboard Learn and as a virtual classroom so that the implementation results in appropriate setup for each.
The dual nature of the product to be used as an integration within the Blackboard Learn environment and use as a virtual classroom outside Blackboard Learn.
The use of java to run the virtual classroom which requires constant download of Java. The fix to this is on the product roadmap.
Wish the vendor had provided us with a consultant that was more knowledgeable on all aspects of product use.
We would have insisted Blackboard implementation team devote equal time to configuration for the virtual classroom companion outside Blackboard Learn.
Technical support was fine, but less responsive to functionality questions (i.e., how best to use the feature in a virtual classroom environment).
Integration and deployment was pretty seamless for within Blackboard Learn environment.
