The IT process automation (ITPA) tool market is composed of solutions that automate IT processes (with increasing cross-functional organizational requirements) to improve operational efficiency, mitigate operational risk, reduce costs, offset the negative effects of complexity and improve standards enforcement. ITPA tools function primarily at the IT services level. They coordinate the execution of work, sequence the timing of subordinate workflow and scripts, and orchestrate the delivery of multiple tasks and services across different IT groups and models.
Robotic process automation (RPA) tools perform "if, then, else" statements on structured data, typically using a combination of user interface (UI) interactions or by connecting to APIs to drive client servers, mainframes or HTML code. An RPA tool operates by mapping a process in the RPA tool language for the software "robot" to follow, with runtime allocated to execute the script by a control dashboard.
